Opportunities to Serve THIS WEEK!

Eager to serve your neighbor? We have great opportunities to serve this coming week! You can make a difference at Messiah Food Pantry, Sharing and Caring Hands or Families Moving Forward.
The Texts this Weekend

This weekend is the 19th Sunday after Pentecost. The readings include Genesis 2:18-24 and Mark 10:2-16.

Some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked, 'Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?' He answered them, 'What did Moses command you?' They said, 'Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.' But Jesus said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you. But from the beginning of creation, "God made them male and female." "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.'

Then in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. He said to them, 'Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.'

People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, 'Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.' And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

Offerings given by our Faith Creek children through the weekend of Oct. 10-11 will go to benefit the Birthday Shelf at Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners. The Birthday Shelf offers IOCP clients the opportunity to choose a quality, new gift (at least $10-20) for their child, age 1-18 years. They also receive a gift bag and a book, as well as things they need to hold a party for their child: cake mix, frosting, napkins, paper plates, etc.

Then on the weekend of Oct. 24-25, the children will be collecting gifts and other items to contribute directly on the Birthday Shelf. O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouths of babes and infants

you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;

what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honour.

You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,

all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8
For Reflection

"God cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls."
- Mother Teresa

Why You Don't Need a New Parenting Strategy

John learned what many parents learned when coming to us about behavior challenges. He didn't need a new strategy -- he needed a new goal. John already knew how to be fun-loving and kind. He already knew how to connect lovingly with his son. But with the new goal of making sure his son knew John's love each morning, everything changed.

Health Tip:

Heavenly Summer Bounty

After a lovely summer, we are so fortunate to receive God's bounty in the form of home grown and locally grown vegetables ready for the harvest. ChooseMyPlate.gov recommends half of your plate daily be from fruit and vegetables.

Share your harvest with neighbors, friends and family so they to can share in the good health of fresh local produce. Enjoy a family outing to a local farmer's market.

Make your harvest into gifts for the winter. Can or freeze your vitamin packed goodies to enjoy the entire winter.

Food shelves would love your extra bounty with those who do not have gardens. Help others enjoy the healthy nutrition this beautiful Minnesota summer has produced.

Here's to a healthier fall and winter!
