This week we complete our reading of the second gospel, Mark, and begin reading Luke. If Matthew focuses on what Jesus said, and Mark focuses on what Jesus did, then Luke blends the two into a carefully crafted story. Luke is a masterful storyteller, taking great care to unfold the details one by one in "an orderly account".

On Saturday you will read the story of the birth of Jesus in Luke 2. It is hard not to hear the voice of Linus reading the words in A Charlie Brown Christmas. As a child I anticipated the day I would get to read that same story in church; what an awesome privilege and responsibility.

At our Gathering in early September we spent our time looking up a single verse in each book of the Old Testament, highlighting it and noting a major theme in each of the 39 books. Stop at the upper level hospitality desk, pick up your bookmark, and highlight the verses in your Bible. It is a great way to review the Old Testament and to trace the thread of salvation.
