O Day Full of Grace

This week we finish Jeremiah and read Lamentations. Lamentations is not a prophet but is included in this section because Jeremiah the prophet is traditionally named as the author. A lament is an expression of grief or sorrow, and Jeremiah reveals the deep sorrow of his heart over the fall of Jerusalem. He doesn't hold back. "The Prophet of the Great Nevertheless" (see post from last week), the prophet who cannot be silenced, speaks of a very dark time in the history of Jerusalem.

And then, right about at the center of this book, is a wonderful, powerful word of grace. Lamentations 3:22-23 says:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

We awake every day to a brand new day; a day full of grace and possibility. What does it mean to awaken to that which is new every morning? What does that tell you about the burdens you carry? Or about the old wounds you are nursing? Or about the future?

At the end of the week, we start reading Ezekiel. More about this prophet next week.
Facebook Question

A friend shared a devotion with me recently that spoke of spiritual memories. It talked about paying attention to what God is doing in your life and marking those events by writing them down. Here's a chance to make a note: What is God up to in your life as you read the Bible daily in 2015? What's new? What's different?

Weekly Encouragement

By now, this daily reading has most certainly become a habit, like brushing your teeth; you can't even imagine NOT doing it. A faithful reader of the Bible said to me, "I have read the Bible daily for a very long time, but I am STILL discovering new things." New Every Morning. Indeed. Read on!
