Nevertheless

Welcome to the prophet Jeremiah, the longest book in the Bible! It doesn't contain as many chapters as the Psalms, but it has more words making it the longest read.

Jeremiah is the second of the three major prophets; Isaiah and Ezekiel being the other two. The designation "major" has nothing to do with the significance of their message, but rather points toward the length. These three prophets are much longer than any of the twelve minor prophets.

I call Jeremiah the prophet of "The Great Nevertheless." It seems no one liked the message he delivered and every one worked hard to silence him. He was beaten, his very life threatened, and he was even thrown into a deep well. But Jeremiah would not shut up; in fact, as it turns out, God's Word cannot be shut up. Even from the pit of a well, this prophet cried, "Nevertheless!" and continued to speak God into the moment. See in particular Jeremiah 20:9 and what it says about God's Word.
Facebook Question

Jeremiah 20:9 says: "But if I say, 'I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,' his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot." Can you name a time you or someone else couldn't hold back God's word?

Weekly Encouragement

Reading the Bible every day won't make your life easier or stress -- and conflict -- and problem free. You may not get the raise you earned or the promotion you desire or the dream job you've always wanted. But you will be changed. You will be transformed. You will begin to understand from the inside out how deeply loved you are and how you were made unique and your gifts matter and make a difference and are needed. That is why we read. Every day. To listen to our good God and to know God more deeply.
