In 2 Kings 17, which we read on day 88, is a record of the sad account of the fall of the Northern Kingdom. It discusses the reason for the invasion by Assyria and casts it in terms of disobedience and unfaithfulness. It is difficult to read the paragraphs detailing the sin of Israel because we ourselves are so present in it. On the one hand we like to believe we have evolved and matured beyond such, and on the other hand, the sad truth remains that there is nothing new under the sun.

But, we have a God, who out of a deep and abiding love, not only corrects and punishes, but also remains committed to us and is at work to restore us. The incredible patience of God can hardly be fathomed.
