In sharp contrast to the Book of Judges -- where God's people are determined to take matters into their own hands -- there is the Book of Ruth: the story of two widows and a farmer where faith is key and central. It is a beautiful story about friendship, loyalty, and devotion. Ruth invites the reader to consider how sometimes the people we least expect to make a difference, in fact make a profound difference. (See Ruth 4:13-17)

After Ruth, we turn the page to I Samuel. The year is roughly 1000 BCE. Here we meet Hannah, Eli, Samuel, Saul, and David. All of their stories invite reflection on prayer, obedience, and faithfulness.
