We continue this week reading Moses' words to God's people before they cross the River Jordan. Moses makes it absolutely clear that relying on God is critical if they are to survive in the Promised Land. Of course, that was a lesson reinforced throughout their time in the wilderness. There, they were completely dependent on God for everything: from their daily food to a drink of water. Nothing happened, it seemed, without God's intervention. Wilderness lesson number one: Rely on God. Remember that. And don't forget.

And then, on Day 51, just like that, the people are in the land and God's promise to Abraham is fulfilled. Joshua 4 is a significant story of an act of remembrance. A stone memorial is erected to help the people do exactly what Moses encouraged: Remember. What helps you recall what God has done for you?

Psalm 107:9 says, "For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things." Think of your daily Bible reading time as dinner for you soul. In the same way your body needs fuel for the day, so also for your soul. It is not possible to overestimate the importance of being nourished and fed by God's Word every single day.
