The First Gathering
for the SPD 2015 Bible Read-Along

Wednesday, Feb. 11, 6:30 p.m.
SPD Learning Center

Five books read -- 61 to go!

On Day 50 (Feb. 18) of our reading we complete the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible. The stories written on these pages are absolutely foundational to the unfolding of God's story of salvation. From Genesis and its stories of origins; to Exodus and its account of the freeing of the Israelites and the covenant established at Sinai and the construction of the tabernacle; to Leviticus and its rehearsal of laws, rituals, and festivals; to Numbers and its census and narrative of the wilderness journey; and finally to Deuteronomy and Moses' final words to the people he has led out of slavery to the promised land; it is an amazing and remarkable history and journey so far!

You're invited!

We will gather for our first conversation on Feb. 11 (a few chapters short of the completion due to Ash Wednesday falling on the same day we complete our reading) at 6:30 p.m. in the Learning Center. We will check in with one another on how we are doing; share best practices and insights; ask questions; and conclude with a look at what lies ahead.

Registration is not necessary, but you are welcome to show your intent to participate by responding to the Facebook invitation.

Share a photo

As you continue your journey, take time this coming week to take a photo of the place where you find yourself most often reading the Bible. Send a copy to cmathison@spdlc.org or post it to our Bible Read-Along Facebook group page. It will be fun to see where the word comes alive for us all!

What's ahead?

The next series of books will cover important history for God's people in the Promised Land. We will read from Joshua to Esther between now and our next gathering. You have made it through Leviticus; there is not stopping you now!

What if I've fallen behind?

Do not give up! You have options:
  1. Pick up the reading where we are. Don't fret over what you haven't read; that can wait for another time.
  2. Skim what you have missed to catch up and then carry on!
  3. If you are finding it difficult to make time to read every day, consider the following:
    • Listen to the Bible in your car with a free Bible app that includes audio (check out YouVersion, for one)
    • Link your reading to something you already do every day, like read right before you brush your teeth; read at a regular meal; read first thing in the morning or last thing before bed
    • Plan to read ahead on the weekends. Anticipate your schedule and plan accordingly.

See you Feb. 11. Until then, keep on reading!
