Where the Story Begins

On Thursday, Jan. 1, as we begin another new year, so we begin our journey through the Bible. Appropriately, we begin with the book called Genesis, or Beginning. Over the first four days we will cover a lot of important ground. We will read two stories of creation and the stories of:
  • Adam and Eve
  • Cain and Abel
  • Noah and the Flood
  • The Tower of Babel
Pay close attention to the pattern established in the four stories following the creation accounts. Look for the sin of the people, the judgment of God and the grace of God poured out for the world God loves so deeply. Sin, judgment, grace; sin, judgment, grace; sin judgment, grace. The pattern alone reveals much about our Creator and our relationship with Him.

Find a Bible

Most participants will be using The NRSV Daily Bible published by Harper Books. This Bible is divided into 365 daily readings -- each one a brief 20-minute read -- followed by a prayer and brief meditation.
  • Copies of The NRSV Daily Bible are available for purchase from the church for $20 at the hospitality desk in the Atrium.
  • Three copies of The NRSV Daily Bible are in the Nook for use in that space. Please do not remove them from the Nook.
  • Mobile editions of The NRSV Daily Bible are available for mobile reading devices like the Amazon Kindle.
  • You could, of course, read a Bible that you already have on hand. You just won't get the meditations and prayers.

We will gather periodically to mark our progress and to encourage one another. Read more about these gatherings on our website, and mark these dates on your calendar:
