This Weekend

This weekend is the 10th Sunday after Pentecost. The readings include Romans 11:1-2a, 29-32 and Matthew 15:21-28.

Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, 'Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.' But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, 'Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.' He answered, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.' But she came and knelt before him, saying, 'Lord, help me.' He answered, 'It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs.' She said, 'Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.' Then Jesus answered her, 'Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.' And her daughter was healed instantly.

Summer Construction

Construction work is continuing to make our church facility more welcoming and hospitable to visitors and guests. You can read about construction progress on our website

Keep our hard-working construction crew in your prayers in the coming weeks!
What's Your School?

Will you be a student, teacher, administrator or support staff in an education program this fall? We would like to include your school on the prayer list of the schools of our faith community. We have collected quite a list so far, including all of the Wayzata elementary and middle schools and Wayzata High School. If you attend a school not in the Wayzata District, please let us know the name of school, school district and what grade your student is in. Email Cindy Carlson.

We also want to hear about where your college student is attending! Please tell us the name of the college or university, and where it's located.
Back to School Supplies

Each year just before school begins, both Interfaith Outreach (in the local community) and Kaleidoscope (a program sponsored by our sister church, Messiah Lutheran, in the Phillips neighborhood), distribute school supplies to children in need. As you see stores setting up their back-to-school displays you are invited to help by donating school supplies. Items of particular need will include:
  • Backpacks (heavy duty-solid colors)
  • Loose-leaf paper and spiral notebooks (wide & college rule)
  • Markers and crayons
  • Pocket folders
  • Calculators
  • Flash drives
  • Highlighters
  • 3-ring binders
  • Colored pencils
  • Water colors
  • Glue and Glue sticks
  • Pens and pencils
New Piano

The piano in the Choir Room, which has been on loan to the church, is returning to its original home. We've negotiated the purchase of a used Yamaha C7 Concert Grand -- the same kind we have in the Sanctuary. We believe it is important to invest in instruments like this to support our outstanding music ministry, and -- while we believe we are getting a very good deal on this instrument -- pianos like this are never inexpensive. We are therefore inviting contributions to support its purchase.

If you would like to help offset the cost of this piano, please visit our designated contributions page, or send a check to the church and indicate "Piano" on the memo line. Thank you for generously supporting the music ministry of St. Philip the Deacon!
Altar Flowers

Whether celebrating a milestone, special event or remembering a loved one you are invited to sponsor the Altar Flowers. The arrangements are $60 each, and are available to pick up on Tuesday mornings. There are still dates available this summer and fall. To make arrangements please contact the church office at 763-475-7100.

May God be gracious to us and bless us

and make his face to shine upon us,

that your way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations.

Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth.

Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.

The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us.

May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him.

- Psalm 67

For Reflection
