Ingratitude was at the heart of the fall,
and at the heart of what's fallen about us
to this
day.

Your Invitation to the Table

Bread and Wine.

Simple fare for Jesus and his disciples. The most common of food and drink at the table.

"The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it... " (1 Corinthians 11:23-24)

When he had given thanks. Not before.

Again and again throughout Scripture it is gratitude--giving thanks--that is the first and fitting response to his grace for his people, for us.

And it is ingratitude--the thought that what he gives is not enough--that led Adam and Eve down the slippery path and that darkens our hearts today.

"Gratitude gets at the very essence of what it means to be created, finite, fallen, redeemed, and sustained by the God of all grace. Ingratitude was at the heart of the fall, and at the heart of what's fallen about us to this day," writes David Mathis.

"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened." (Romans 1:21)

Jesus sets the example for us.

It was gratitude to the Father that he expressed as he held out the bread and cup at the table, on the very night he knew he would be betrayed and what was to come.

Just a piece of ordinary bread and fruit of the vine, and he told them, "Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup..." (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Whenever you do this. On every ordinary day, remember me. And give thanks.

Please join us this Saturday morning as we celebrate the grace of the risen Christ in our lives and raise the bread and wine at the table of our Lord, giving thanks.

All the info is below. I hope to see you there!
