You are the potter; I am the clay. Mold me and make me; this is what I pray.

I love how God uses the simple elements of the day to deliver his message. Jeremiah was an Old Testament prophet, appointed by God to sound a warning to the nation of Judah. This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: "Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you my message." So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands, so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me: "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? declares the Lord."Jeremiah 18:1-6 In Jeremiah's time, every village or marketplace had a potter's wheel. Clay was abundant in Judah and clay jars were used in every home for carrying and storing water and wine. Therefore, this is an analogy that Jeremiah could use to deliver his message to the people of Israel. If you've ever watched a potter make a jar out of clay, you know the care and attention that goes into it. And you know how long it takes to create that pot. But did you know that when the potter is working with the clay he never takes his hand off the clay as he shapes it on the wheel? He never takes his hand off the clay as he shapes it!Dear friends, he never takes his hand off of us. Whatever our fears or anxieties, or whatever things we think mar us, we can safely rest ourselves in the hands of the wise and gentle potter.
He keeps his hand on us. The result is not always the pot we envisioned, but it will be a pot useful to him--a vessel that, if we let it, brings life to others and glory to him.
Thank you, Lord, for never leaving us and for never removing your hand from us.
Greg
