Little Art for Big Fun and Funds
.

One hundred professional miniaturists are bringing their artistry, Black and red tea setskill, and ingenuity to the South Bay for a show benefitting PlaneTree. You are invited!

.

You will be fascinated by their marvelously diverse wee wares, and enjoy both the finished miniature exhibits and Saturday's silent auction of exquisite art. Attendees are also eligible to win delightful, dealer-donated door prizes.

Children are welcome too (but no strollers, please). Kids have a blast letting their imaginations run wild during the free children's workshops from noon to 3 p.m. each afternoon. For young hands and budgets, project materials and finished products will be for sale.

Anthropomorphized family of giraffes     You can try your own hand at creating miniatures during the free "Tools and Techniques" seminar on Sunday morning. Additional classes requiring pre-registration and fees are offered for kids (ages 9-14) and adults.

.
Now in its 38th year, this annual fundraiser will again be at the DoubleTree Hotel San Jose. The hotel is a pleasant ten-minute stroll from the Metro/Airport light rail station. If you drive, discounted parking is available for attendees.

With vendors from across the U.S. and ten other countries, the "Showcase of Miniatures" is the third largest miniature show in the entire U.S. and the largest show west of the Mississippi.

News You Cannot Use
.
Each month I browse dozens of online health-related articles in search of material for our "News You Can Sketch of a newspaper, glasses and cupUse" column.
Many well-written, fascinating articles are omitted from the column because they don't meet one of our primary criteria for inclusion: the information should be of practical use to our readers.
In the six years I've been editing PlaneTalk, the non-useful article I've most wanted to share with you has been "How Your Cat Is Making You Crazy." You'll find it amazing and somewhat disturbing, even if cats have never been a part of your life. Scientists discover the most bizarre stuff!
