Special Cornerstone Spotlight - John Lubimir
Assistant Vice President/Sales Lubimir Celebrates 70 Years in Transportation
| |
Assistant VP - Sales
John Lubimir |
With his 88th birthday now behind him, John Lubimir celebrates a whopping 70 years in the transportation business. His successful career began at age 18 with the Southern Pacific Railroad, and today continues strongly as he heads up the Cornerstone Systems office located in San Francisco, CA as Assistant Vice President -Sales.
On a social note "Uncle John", as he is affectionately known, is an avid snow skier and loves to spend time at his place in Lake Tahoe. But ask anyone about John Lubimir and the colorful stories begin to fly...
"First off, there is no truth to the rumor that John was there when they drove in the Golden Spike", said Cornerstone Assistant Pricing Manager Brent Gatti, "nor was he responsible for the Great San Francisco earthquake. But an interesting fact about John many people may not know is that he was a Sergeant in the service during WWII and part of General MacArthur's force that liberated the Philippines."
"What can I say about John Lubimer? An industry icon?" said Cornerstone CEO/Chairman Rick Rodell. "Poof that old sales reps never die, they just keep on turning in expense accounts? I guess I have known John for more years than I am willing to admit to. How you know whether he likes you or not can be judged by how much he cuts you down. The more cuts, the more he genuinely likes you.
I mentioned expense accounts and that deserves a true story about John and his approach to authority. We both worked together in a previous company and the owners called for a sales meeting. Being his usually agreeable self he said he was tied up and could not attend. At the meeting we sat a full size mannequin in a chair and taped a picture of John over its face and took pictures of "John" at the meeting.
True to form, a month later he turned in an expense account for round trip airfare, lodging, meals, and car rental. When the owners asked him what he was doing, he sent them one of the pictures showing him sitting in at the sales meeting!
John, I hope I'm doing as well as you after 70 years of this business. You've slowed down a little, but not much. You're still out their selling, and more importantly, still getting new business. Take care my friend, and stay off the skis, ok?"
Cornerstone salutes John Lubimir and celebrates his 70 years in the transportation business!
