National Mentoring Month - Thank You Mentors! The mentor potluck this year was a wonderful success! The event featured great conversations about our mentors' impact on the Dreamers, in and outside of school. Program Directors and AmeriCorps members took turns expressing their appreciation for the time the mentors dedicate to the Dreamers. Program staff and mentors brainstormed ideas for the upcoming mentor socials in March to which Dreamers will also be invited. Ideas included bowling, ice skating, and a group trip to a wildlife sanctuary. From all of us at "I Have a Dream," we would like to say, "Thank you," to the mentors for contributing to the social, emotional, and educational success of the Dreamers.
Right now there are about 100 mentors, but there are over 200 Dreamers who could benefit from a mentor relationship. If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a mentor for the youth in our program, please have them apply online at www.ihaveadreamboulder.org or they can contact our mentor coordinator, Emily Winters, at [email protected].

Dreamers Celebrate Dr. King's Legacy & Dream
On Monday, January 20th members of the "I Have a Dream" family gathered to celebrate the life of Dr. King and remember his dream and historic speech, from which the foundation draws its name. Like Dr. King, the 350 low-income children involved with the "I Have a Dream" program have had to overcome their own set of struggles in order to make their dreams a reality.
Each of our six Dreamer classes made up of elementary, middle, and high school students celebrated their namesake by rallying, marching, and participating in various community service projects throughout the Front Range. In Boulder, Dreamers participated in a rally on the Pearl Street Mall and enjoyed festivities featuring music, activism, and inspiration presented by various community members at the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. In Lafayette, Dreamers marched down South Public Road and then convened for a celebration at the Escuela Bilingue Pioneer. Dreamers from Longmont made a presentation during the Longmont MLK celebration and call to action at Silver Creek High School. Dreamers also traveled to Denver to represent "I Have a Dream" in the largest Martin Luther King rally in the country. Visit our Facebook Page to see photos.
