Dear Millers and Subscribers to The International Milling Directory,
We have been having a great time since the previous e-Newsletter and we hope all has been pleasant for you too.
There has been interesting developments this past month. We have been to visit nabim (The National Association of British and Irish millers) in their London HQ, to discuss potential new pathways of involving our publications with their organisation, especially around those critical areas of training and skills that ensure a passion for the industry and that so many mill owners call for in their workforce.
The IMD team also took a trip to the London and South East Millers Society, to see an organised talk centred on 'pest control in feed and flour mill'. We walked away with a better understanding of the disruption caused to mills as well as the issues involved, and how they might be minimised. The talk has given us lots of ideas about how we can ensure that our publications can effectively help our readers and customers in covering this topic.
Four staff from The International Milling Directory and our sister magazine, Grain & Feed Milling Technology, were in Amsterdam from 12-15 February as guests of VNU Exhibitions.
This visit provided an excellent opportunity to meet with key Dutch milling, nutritional and equipment companies, who will be exhibiting at the upcoming VIV Europe event in Utrecht. Over the course of the three days, we learned about each company's history as well as the very latest products and innovations that each of them will be showcasing in May. It was surprising how many of them were connected in one way or another with milling.
Our friends at VNU took very good care of everyone attending, arranging both a number of highly educational excursions - such as a tour of GD Animal Nutrition's laboratories - as well as making sure some time was spent seeing the sites of Amsterdam on a beautiful canal cruise. It was a highly rewarding experience that was perfectly balance between business and pleasure. A very big thank you to VNU Exhibitions, and to everyone else involved - we are now looking forward to VIV Europe 2014 more than ever!
Two other exciting international events, taking place in India and Thailand are fast approaching. These are events the milling industry can't ignore! There are still sponsorship opportunities available for both events and please do register to attend and get an attendance certificate. As co-hosts of these events we are offering complimentary attendance which includes a voucher for coffee and tea, and you will be entitled for a complimentary annual subscription to our magazine and Directory. GRAPAS innovation award
Our sister publication, Grain & Feed Milling Technology magazine is proud to be co-organiser of the annual GRAPAS award for innovation.
You may think we have, over the past 150 years achieved all the progress we can towards creating an efficient milling industry the provides safe food at affordable prices and delivered to consumers on a timely basis. Not so.
There is still significant progress being made towards those objectives on an annual basis and the GRAPAS Award is designed to recognise the advances being made by industry in an area that has largely disappeared from view.
That recognition is made in the form of an award called GRAPAS, and is made at the milling industry's most dedicated event - a three sector co-located exhibition held in Asia every two years and in Europe every fourth year. To find out how you can enter -
