Dear Valued Subscriber
We have just returned from China and Dubai! What an experience both events proved to be: the '9th Symposium of the World's Chinese Scientists on Nutrition and Feeding of Finfish and Shellfish' called SWCSNFFS in Xiamen and the Seafex Seafood Summit, in Dubai.
In preparation for the symposium in China, which attracted 1190 Chinese-speaking nutritionists and scientists from around the world, IAF translated its September-October 2013 edition and made 1300 copies available to delegates. The uptake was so comprehensive that we have decided to translate up coming editions with the view of establishing a Chinese edition for our industry.
Roger Gilbert, our publisher, spoke on the topic of The Status of European Aquaculture and the Feed Chain.
In Dubai Mr Gilbert spoke on the Seafex Seafood Summit where IAF had a stand at the exhibition. This was the first year the exhibition has hosted a Seafood Summit and is planning to repeat it each year. IAF has agreed to support the summit in a region where aquaculture development is growing.
During the Seafex Seafood Summit, Roy Palmer from Australia and of the World Aquaculture Society launched the newly created group called 'International Association of Seafood Professionals'. Membership is free and the group hopes to bring together those that are involved in aquaculture across borders to help address some of the restrictions to development.
Looking ahead to December, we will be returning to Asia to participate in the Vietnam's Aquaculture Asia Pacific event. We look forward to seeing you there!
Your sincerely
Tuti Tan Circulation and Events Manager International Aquafeed

Welcome to the new edition of International Aquafeed! My name is Richard Sillett, and as Aquafeed deputy editor I'm proud to present a packed and informative magazine, with all the industry news and technical insight you'd expect.
Most excitingly of all, there's an interview with new Aquafeed associate editor Dr Kangsen Mai. Kangsen is a leading academic and opinion-former in Chinese aquaculture, and has been instrumental in the development of International Aquafeed's first Chinese edition, launched this month.
Along with the latest aquaculture news and commentary from industry figures like Dr Dominique Bureau, Roy Palmer and Pamela Parker of the Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association, we've got feature-length coverage on topics as diverse as 3D feed modelling, the aquaculture applications of herbal medicine, and animal co-product hydrolysates.
We also have a special report from Brittany, as I investigate the state of the macroalgae industry in northwest France. I spent some time in France researching the story, and I'm confident that as algae makes bigger waves in the world of feed (and it is), Brittany will be at the heart of the story.
