International Milling Directory
Newsletter - September 2013
|
Dear Valued Subscriber and IMD Reader
Coming back from Livestock Asia 2013 in Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia, after meeting with many new people from our industry, we heard that a lot of them find the IMD Directory that we publish annually is a valuable guide to them in their everyday work and that they find it extremely useful, especially as its available in print, online and on smartphones.
That is backed up by the fact that this latest batch of distributed copies of IMD 2012/13 - at this important regional show for Asia - were taken before end of the first day. If you attended Livestock Asia 2013 in KL and were disappointed that you didn't get a copy, I would be really happy to send you our latest edition IMD 2013/14 instead. Just drop me an email.
As the Directory's circulation is getting wider and achieving greater reach within our industry, we would like to have some constructive feedback from users on how we might develop the Directory even further. Please drop me an email and tell me how we can improve. We take your views very seriously as we aim to provide the most comprehensive and easily used directory for millers everywhere! Many thanks in advance.

Sincerely
Tuti Tan

September has been like the end of a very long journey, with the publication delays now over. We are really looking forward to new companies, Equipment Guides, advertising artwork updates and even a great coup with the opening letter. We have managed to secure a great introduction to the new International Milling Directory from Alexander Waugh, Secretary General of nabim - the National Association of British and Irish Millers. I hope you are all excited about what Alexander will have to say. The only way to find out is to get using the new version which will be published online and of course in our famous ring-bound physical copies.
Events we are due to be exhibiting at for the International Milling Directory soon are: IAOM Middle East (Sousse, Tunisia, 5-8th November 2013) and JTIC in France.

TODAY's industry news ...
Wheat port access approved by ACCC; USA and Japan organic trade partnership; land management practices
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has accepted Emerald Grain's wheat port access undertaking agreement after feedback from industry counterparts.
"Emerald Grain is in favour of competition at ports and in the Australian grain market. Competition at Australian ports and grain storage facilities means a better return for Australian growers," said John Warda, Emerald Grain Group general manager supply chain & operations.
The new undertaking will be in place from October 1, 2013. The United States and Japan have announced that as of January 1, 2014, organic products certified in Japan or in the United States may be sold as organic in either country. This partnership will give US farmers' and processors' the opportunity to access the growing Japanese organic market, adding to a growing organic industry and supporting job creation and business growth globally. A report conducted by the international Economics of Land Degradation initiative states that the economic value of global land is undervalued and commonly determined by immediate agricultural or forestry market values. There are several ways to combat land degradation, including reforestation, sustainable agriculture and establishing alternative non-agricultural livelihoods (i.e. eco-tourism). The report suggests that if agricultural land productivity remains at its current levels, an estimated 6 million hectares of land (roughly the area of Norway) would need to be converted to agricultural production every year until at least 2030 to satisfy growing demand.
