It's beautiful summer weather here in Cheltenham and heading for production of the International Milling Directory 22 edition just adds to the pleasure. There's excitement in the air and around what we are doing in Perendale's office.
Trying to improve every corner of The Directory are our daily job. We are aiming to enhance it's reputation again this year and make it a must have publication (both in print and online for smart phones). I am proud to say we are still the most trusted and leader in this industry when it comes to our Directory, leaving many behind to catch up.
This year's Directory will be distributed widely around the world in conjunction with our commitment with the wide ranging events and conferences that we are attending and participating in. Well, for this year the end is nearing and will arrive soon!
The new edition will contain so many companies that have continued and also improved their listings, synopsis, adverts, logos and more. We're slightly delayed by time but will aim to get the 5,000 printed copies once again out into the milling, grain and feed sectors to provide the very best directory, equipment guides, event information and industry organizations. It has been a really great thing to contact all listed members recently to confirm what they wanted to renew or change. I wish I could thank you all personally but there are so many, it would take a lot of time!
The IMD blog, Millinginternational.com played its part in an advertising campaign for a pet food plant auction. It was a unique way to spread the word to millers about the 'great variety of assets' including parts from our registered members like Wenger.
Lots of new equipment guides will be published, Satake stepped in to be the first for a new rice milling equipment guides section. More are due to follow very soon.
One brilliant coup for us is to proudly announce that Alexander Waugh, Director General of nabim (national association of British and Irish millers) has written the opening letter to the new IMD. We will also get this online for the first time in the history of the IMD, so our web presence is seamlessly aligned to our print presence.

USW South Korea new director; IFIF's feed report; Evonik launches animal feed center
The U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) recently announced that Dr. Won Bang Koh, country director, South Korea, is to retire on September 30, 2013. Koh will be replaced by Chang-Yoon Kang. "In the wheat business, relationships matter and Dr. Koh has built an incredible link between U.S. wheat farmers with the Korean millers and bakers who buy and process their crops. We thank him for his commitment to this industry and for his dedicated service over the last 28 years; he will be missed," said Alan Tracy, president of USW. Read more...Back in July, IFIF launched its "Comparison of Regulatory Management of Authorized Ingredients, Approval Processes, and Risk-Assessment Procedures for Feed Ingredients" report. Drafted on expert input and support by government feed regulators and feed ingredients associations, the report covers Brazil, Canada, China, European Union, Japan, South Africa, and United States. The objective of the report is to address similarities and differences among the 7 regulatory jurisdictions on the management of existing feed ingredients, the approval process, and risk management assessment for feed ingredients. Grain coalition; Vietnam to expand on maize and soybean; Carr's new low-moisture feed block business
Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has proposed a takeover of GrainCorp. However, in the run up to the Australian federal election next month, Warren Truss, leader of the National Party of Australia, has voiced his opposition of the proposed $3-billion takeover. The Vietnam Animal Feed Association recently stated that Vietnam is lacks sufficient materials for animal feed production. Pham Duc Binh, deputy chairman stated that the lack of materials is down to unreasonable decisions about what plants to grow. According to Binh, if animal feed producers coul seek domestic material sources, they would not have to import materials any more, which would allow them to cut down expenses (VND1,000 per kilo for transportation cost). Livestock Asia Asia's consumption of pork, beef and other livestock is set to double by 2020 (FAO). This prominent increase in livestock consumption will likely pose massive production, demand and supply-related challenges for the livestock industry. In light of this, Asia's largest International Feed, Livestock & Meat Industry show returns this year in an effort to assist the Malaysian government to achieve 2020 GNI (Gross National Income) targets. The event will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) in Malaysia from 24th - 26th September 2013.
