Foundation Supports KPWE at First Friday
Staycation Raffle Drawing on May 6
The SCWCC Foundation will draw the winner of its around-town Staycation Raffle at the First Friday networking event on May 6.

Monies raised by the Foundation directly fund a Karen Possehl Women's Endowment program scholarship, which is awarded to a non-traditional female student attending UCCS.

This year's raffle package offers prizes from the Garden of the Gods Club and Resort, Springs Orleans, Sonterra, City Rock, Discovery Center, and Kimball's Theater. Tickets (1 for $10 or 3 for $20) can be purchased in person at Women's Chamber events or online at www.facebook.com/SCWCCFoundation.

All online sales are processed through Paypal and the winner will be drawn at 9:00 am on May 6 at the SCWCC First Friday Coffee hosted by The Inn at Garden Plaza. Contact any Foundation Board member for more details, or to purchase your tickets in person!

Then join us at the annual Unstoppable Women's Luncheon to celebrate the fundraising success of the SCWCC Foundation and meet the scholars.

Partner Events in MAY

The Women's Chamber is happy to partner with community events that celebrate outstanding women and their many accomplishments. In May, we'll enjoy back-to-back special events and hope that you'll take a seat at one of our tables.
On Thursday, May 12 we'll join the Regional Business Alliance to learn who will be honored as this year's ATHENA Award recipient. The keynote speaker will be Polly Letofsky, of GlobalWalk, Inc., who will share Little Steps, Big Feat- Life and Leadership Lessons from a Walk Around the World.
Then on Tuesday, May 17 we'll help honor US Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson and recognize the Karen Possehl Women's Endowment scholars at the annual Unstoppable Women luncheon at UCCS.
And ... we're saving a seat for you at both luncheons! Join friends and associates at Women's Chamber tables set aside for these special events - just register at the SCWCC links below and we'll sign you up.

Small Business Week: May 2-5
The Small Business Development Center, Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado and US Bank invite you to be a part of the biggest Small Business Week celebration in the region, with five special events aligning with the SBA's National Small Business Week.

The week-long event is packed with workshops, panel discussions, networking, a food truck cook-off and the regional small business awards - at one big party! -  all designed to support and provide resources for small business owners, entrepreneurs and those preparing to start a business. According to the SBA, about two-thirds of the private sector jobs in this nation are created by small businesses, and this annual special event recognizes their tremendous impact throughout the region. Check out the lineup and register today >>
Artemis Appreciation: May 4
The Artemis Board of Directors will host its First Annual Membership Appreciation & Drive Reception at the Possibilities Space at Discover Goodwill, 1460 Garden of the Gods Road, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 4. Both Artemis and Discover Goodwill are veteran SCWCC members, so you're certain to see lots of familiar faces.

And ... the get-together is designed for sharing ... come on your own for just $15, or register yourself - plus multiple companions - for only $20. To get the "group rate," just make sure to include the number and names of your guests with registration. You'll enjoy wine and appetizers while you meet new friends, catch up with colleagues, and learn more about a long-standing group of influential women in the community.
Key Election Dates: Primaries on June 28
El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman recently presented key election dates for the coming months - reminding everyone that important preparations are already underway. The Elections Department is anticipating a record turnout, with hotly contested races at every level of government ... so get ready by checking EPCVotes.com for local details.

The 2016 election will be conducted as a mail-ballot, with added Voter Service and Polling Centers available for casting your vote in person. You'll want to check your voter registration info to make sure that it's correct with the Secretary of State. You can also go direct to GoVoteColorado.com, then select links below "manage my registration" to confirm your record and stay in the loop.

If your information is correct, all you need to do is await your ballot's arrival by mail. But if anything needs to be updated, changes must be completed by you, as detailed by the Secretary of State website. Mail ballots are not forward-able under Colorado law.

Member Events - Coming Up
First Friday | May 6 | 7:30-9a ... Join us for early-riser free networking on the First Friday of each month - at The Inn at Garden Plaza, 2520 International Circle (just slightly south-and-east of Stargazers, off Pikes Peak). You'll find plenty of free parking and make lots of new connections.

From the front, enter the main doors, take the elevator across from reception down one level. From the rear/east, enter at the middle garden level and follow the hallway straight back to the Rec Room. Bring a little cash for the optional breakfast buffet - and at least 60 business cards - and we'll see you then!
The Colorado Springs Conservatory recently partnered with the Women's Chamber and The Mezzanine is its own 'social enterprise' that subsidizes programming for over 800 young performing artists through membership fees and all ticket sales.

Conveniently located on Tejon, The Mezz enhances the local arts scene and has become a vital part of the downtown Creative District. This unique performing arts experience offers classical music, jazz, drama, musical theater, burlesque, dueling pianos and much more (plus signature cocktails) - all in an environment that nurtures, honors, and cultivates both audiences and artists, now and into the future.
