Fireworks

From the Bishop

Bishop ReevesFreedom in Christ

Bishop E.V. Reeves

We just celebrated Independence Day in the United States. Some of us hosted cookouts, watched fireworks, and went on shopping sprees to take advantage of all the "big" Fourth of July sales every department store across the country advertised. But when we really go back to see what this holiday meant as seen through the eyes of the Founding Fathers, we understand that it had less to do with barbecues and parades and more to do with freedom.

Freedom is a powerful concept and one that originates from God. For certainly God created man with the power of will, giving us the ability to freely choose and direct the course of our own lives. He never wanted us to be in relationship with Him out of fear or compulsion but rather out of our own desire to freely respond to his incomprehensible  love for us. In fact, responding to the love of Jesus Christ is what true freedom is really all about for "if the Son therefore shall make us [you] free, we [ye] shall be free indeed." (John 8:36).

Therefore, we should be very concerned when we see how religious freedoms are under assault, not only on foreign soil but also in the United States of America. Some of the recent church burnings and threats against pastors and churches are just the symptoms of a much deeper problem. "Targeted attacks on religious liberty are more serious and widespread than you may realize. In courtrooms and schoolrooms, offices and shops, public buildings and even churches...those who believe in God are increasingly threatened, punished, and silenced".

We will address this and other important topics at our upcoming Annual Eagles Rock Summit scheduled for August 19-21, 2015. We have some outstanding speakers and teachers coming to include Dr. Sam Chand and Dr. Doug Murren who will help enlighten us on the kind of radical leadership we need for these changing times in which we live.

We cannot afford to be nave and we must have a clear sense of what is going on around us, discerning the times. Jesus admonishes us this way, "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man" (Luke 21:36). So let us walk in the authority that our freedom in Christ affords us, demonstrating His love as Salt and Light in the world.

HEALTH MINISTRY

MOM WAS RIGHT, YOU NEED TO EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!
Min. Kim Johnson, MD

Once again, Mom was right. Eating raw fruits and vegetables is good for you. People have been eating raw foods since the beginning of time. Back before obesity, cancer, and heart

disease were claiming the lives of millions.  From the structure of our jaw and teeth, saliva profile, the design of our digestive system, enzyme make up, and the pH of our stomach, it's clear that humans were designed to eat raw plant foods.

Raw food consists of (usually plant) food that is uncooked and unprocessed.  Such food is often termed "live" or "living". The raw food diet is based on the belief that a high-enzyme diet will ensure optimal health. Enzymes help us to digest food; raw food contains enzymes that assist this process. When we cook food, the naturally occurring enzymes are destroyed by heat (over 118F or 48C), and our bodies need to produce the enzymes to digest the food. It is thought that this places too much pressure on our bodies, having to both manufacture the enzymes needed, and digest the food at the same time. Cooking is also thought to diminish the nutritional value and "life force" of food.

Health Benefits

The reasons why people follow a raw food diet vary including losing weight, anti-aging properties, health benefits and physical performance benefits.  As you begin to eat a raw diet, one of the very first health benefits that you will notice is the increase in your energy levels and better sleep. You will also most likely notice that you are starting to look more youthful and are shedding a few pounds. These days our lives are busy, and having a completely natural way to feel better and enjoy life is priceless.

Other health benefits that you are likely to notice are an improved skin appearance and digestion. This diet has also been shown to help people reduce the risk of certain life threatening conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

There are many amazing benefits to be realized by following a raw food diet, but to be honest, for some it can take a little longer depending what their current state of health is. Most people have been eating poorly for years before they find the raw diet and have accumulated a number of health issues, which may require a little time to sort out. When given the correct fuel, the body's innate intelligence knows exactly what needs to be done to return the body to optimal health.

Eating raw is as easy as drinking a smoothie

Summer brings a plethora of delicious fruits and vegetables making it a great time to incorporate more of them into your diet. Drinking smoothies is one of the easiest ways to do this. During the July session of the Health Ministry, we will make smoothies and share our favorite smoothie recipes. It will be a fun and interactive discussion about eating a raw diet and how it improves your health. So bring your Nutribullet or blender and your favorite smoothie ingredients to the meeting on July 18th from 10 am - noon at The Life Church (in the multi-purpose room). I hope to see you there!
