From the Bishop
Celebrating the Wisdom of Our Mothers
The bond between mother and child is one of the closest relationships that exist in humanity. She is nurturer, protector, comforter and teacher. Who can underestimate the influence and love of a mother? We have all heard the stories about mothers lifting up cars to rescue a child trapped underneath or fighting off a vicious dog that has threatened or attacked her child. It is a common understanding that most mothers would go to almost any lengths to protect their children.
Like a lioness fights to protect her cubs so human mothers will fight ferociously to protect their children. One of the greatest ways that mothers can protect their children is by preparing them for life by teaching them the Word of God and encouraging them to walk in the ways of Christ. When I was growing up my mother made sure that we learned the scripture. We had to recite a verse many times before we were even allowed to eat dinner. The Word of God truly is the bread of Life and mothers are usually the first people to offer their children such rich food that is so desperately needed for success in life. For truly, "she opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness" (Proverbs 31:26).
I want to encourage all mothers to nurture, teach and train your children. Fill their minds and hearts with wisdom both practically and spiritually. Instill in them the things that they will need to help sustain them in life. I can still remember the wise words that my mother and my grandmother shared with my brothers and me. I still call upon their words of wisdom when I am faced with trials or simply just need understanding about a particular situation. Not only did they nurture me spiritually but they made sure that I had "good-ole'-fashioned-common-sense".
Over the next several days I will be sharing some of the wisdom of my grandmother and mother with all of you through social media and I want you to talk back to me when I do. Don't just hit the "like" button and scroll by, but leave a comment and maybe add some words of wisdom that you received from the maternal figures in your life. Let's talk and reflect on the wisdom of our mothers, celebrating them for who they have helped us to become.
To all of The Life's mothers, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY and know that we celebrate you!
"CLAIMING OUR TERRITORY!"

HEALTH MINISTRY
HUNGER
May Health Ministry Session
For the next few months, the Health Ministry will discuss hunger. By definition, hunger is "a strong desire or need for food" or "a strong desire or craving". Hunger is a gift from God and a sign of good health. It is a driving force that moves us from a place of lack to a place of fulfillment. In the natural, we get hungry by not eating. In the Kingdom, we get hungry by eating. The question for both natural and spiritual hunger is, "how do we satisfy our hunger?"
This month, the Health Ministry will launch a new series on Hunger.
Hunger series topics include:
- The gift of hunger
- Hunger vs. cravings: How food cravings work
- Healthy ways to satisfy your hunger
- A renewed mind: the key to a healthy relationship with food
"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled." (Matt. 5:6) Join us as we address healthy ways to satisfy your physical hunger and how to stimulate and feed spiritual hunger. Be in Health in 2015!
