From the Bishop

The Full Calling of Motherhood
I read a line from a song about mothers that said,"A mother's work is never done; you think you're through you've just begun". I believe that these lyrics ring true because carrying a child and giving birth in the natural is only the beginning of the work that mothers must do to help their children grow up to be healthy, responsible, well rounded men and women. So often we think about all of the things mothers do in the natural for their children; feeding them, bathing them, rocking them, kissing hurt knees and wiping their tears away.
However, just as a mother nurtures her children in the natural, she must also nurture them spiritually. This means raising them to know God, to love Him and to obey His word. Mothers must make time to teach their children God's word, reading it to them and encouraging them to read it for themselves. It also means helping her children to live by the principles of God's word, providing firm discipline and correction when they deviate from what is right and encouragement and praise when they take a stand and refuse to do what is wrong. A mother's job is not to pacify her children by always saying "yes" to them but to sometimes say "NO" and mean it! A mother's work also involves covering her children with prayer day and night.
Children don't just need mothers; they need godly mothers that are filled with the Spirit, who can help raise godly children. This is the full calling of motherhood. Women of God must rise up in the Spirit and say to their children what Paul said in Galatians 4:19, "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you". The full calling of motherhood is for a mother to help turn the hearts of her children towards our Heavenly Father and help them grow up to be like Christ. So mothers, be encouraged to accept your full calling and always stand strong in your rightful place. Your spiritual nurturing makes a huge difference in the lives of your children. Happy Mother's Day!

So Blessed by You, Mom
A mother who always cares,
A mother who's always there.
A mother who always prays,
A mother who always stays.
When things get rough,
When life gets tough,
When all is just too much to bear,
God's Word she shares.
God's light she shines.
So blessed God made this mother mine.

From The Desk of Lady O
A Mother's Day Thought
Having a mother is like having your own angel. She watches over you, provides for you, prays for you and loves you at all times. Her love is so deep that it doesn't matter what you do because her arms are always open wide to receive you. When you were little she walked behind you, so when you fell she was there to pick you up; it seemed her kisses healed your wounds. When it came to the gift you gave her, whether great or small, it was such a small token in comparison to all the love she'd shown.
If I had to describe my mother who is no longer with me; I would call her loving, she was a great source of strength, my confidant and counselor; but most of all she was my best friend. I miss my mother....
If your mother is still here, I encourage you to love and cherish her while you still have her. One day the Lord will call her home. When she's gone your heart will skip a beat because it's through her that God caused yours to first beat. And when she's gone all the wonderful things about her, her many hugs, kisses, love and laughter will be a keepsake memory.
Maybe your relationship with your mother is not what I described or what you desire it to be - if so, I want to leave you with these encouraging words. Exodus 20:12 says, "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." This command is so important that it's repeated in Ephesians 6:2, when Paul said, "Honor your father and mother-which is the first commandment with a promise."
The Word of God does not command us to honor our parents if they are great parents, but to honor them because in honoring them it shows respect and reverence for our spiritual Father (Col. 3:20). To honor someone means to give the person high respect. We can all honor our mother for giving us life and doing the best she knew how to do. No matter the status of your relationship with your mother, she is the one who brought you into this world. Honor is not about having a great childhood or about having a mom who got it all right. Honor is about gratitude and respect for the position of the relationship and the difficulty of the job.
This year build on the positive and show your mother love, honor her in the Lord. If you can't find the card that captures what you want to say, simply get a blank card and maybe write "Thank you for choosing life for me. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you."
If you're experiencing the loss of your mother be comforted with these words, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18) May God surround you with love, fill you with hope, and give you strength for each moment-especially this Mother's Day.
Happy Mother's Day!

Fit for Life
Are You Taking Care of Your Temple?
by Pamela Carter
Healthcare Ministry
3 John 1:2 states, "Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul."
The month of May has several National Health Awareness topics that are pertinent to promoting and maintaining your Healthy Temple, which makes it very difficult to focus on only one. Thus, I found it befitting to educate us about High Blood Pressure, also known as Hypertension (HTN) and what we can do in order to keep our blood pressure under control.
What is Hypertension?
Hypertension is a chronic health condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. This requires the heart to work harder to circulate the blood throughout the blood vessels, this can affect our entire body leading to cardiac and/or kidney disorders, plus a stroke According to National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), one out of every three adults are diagnosed with HTN.
Prevention is the best defense to HTN. However, prevention measures do require lifestyle changes and following a strict prescribed medication regimen from your physician.
Understanding BP Numbers
BP is recorded as a ratio between two numbers, e.g. 120/62 mmHg
- Systolic (120) - top number refers to heart muscle contracting
- Diastolic (62) - bottom number refers to heart muscle resting between beats and refilling with blood

Supportive Measures - Controlling HTN
Lifestyle Changes
- Healthy balanced diet, limit sodium intake
- Routine physical activity, speak with physician before starting any exercise program
- If you smoke, QUIT! Smoking can damage blood vessels and raise blood pressure
- Manage stress
- Take medication as prescribed by your physician
In conclusion, it is imperative to discuss and follow your HTN - health treatment plan designed by your physician to protect and maintain your HOLISTIC TEMPLE!

Financing Your Life
10-10-80 Budget Plan
The 10-10-80 budget is a simple, practical financial planning tool that can help individuals as well as families. The budget seeks to attain balance between vital needs, charitable giving and saving. If you really want a way to be financially free, follow these three simple steps and you will be on your way.
1) 10% to God. The first 10% goes back to God. This is rooted in the belief that God owns it all anyway, and we are just called to be good managers of what He give us. So in response, we begin by giving the first 10% back to Him.
2) 10% to savings. We've all heard: "You need to save for a rainy day." Life happens and you need to be prepared for and plan for those surprises that will arise. The washing machine will break down, the car will need new tires, or brakes, the children will grow out of last year's clothes - so the best way to be prepared is to be prepared.
3) 80% to live on. The remaining 80% is yours to live on. People who actually live this way claim that the 80% somehow seems to go farther than the 100% did before.
It may seem to be weird math, but somehow it does work. How can 80% be enough when you were using 100% before? When you trust God He is sure to provide all your needs.
John D. Rockefeller, one of the world's richest people to have ever lived, followed this exact budgetary split, setting 20 percent of his income aside for the purposes he considered most important: charity and saving. So why not start today?
