Cardinal O'Malley Statement On New Vermont Physician Assisted Suicide Law
Cardinal Seán O'Malley of Boston, chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, warned of an "alarming trend nationwide" after Vermont legalized physician-assisted suicide, May 20. He called for "all people of good will to fight the future passage of such laws."

Evangelium Vitae Celebration Day in Rome As part of the Year of Faith, the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization has designated June 15-16 as days of celebration of "Evangelium Vitae," Blessed Pope John Paul II's encyclical on the Gospel of Life. Several events in Rome that weekend will provide the faithful the chance to gather with the Holy Father to affirm and celebrate the dignity of human life. The weekend concludes with a Papal Mass in St. Peter's Square on Sunday morning, June 16. "Mary, Pro-Life Inspiration"

"Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia." So begins the Regina Coeli prayer, which replaces the noon-time Angelus during the Easter season. Because the Easter season extends well into May, we are able to use this special prayer to Mary during much of the month traditionally dedicated in her honor. Marian devotion is one of the Vatican's recommendations for observing the Year of Faith. It can also be a wonderful help in pro-life efforts.
Mary has many beautiful titles: Patroness of the Americas, Patroness of the New Evangelization and Patroness of the Unborn, to name a few. There are also many inspiring examples from Mary's life that serve as a model for authentic Christian living.
