Graphic Designer making a difference in what people see and feel by eliminating confusion.

When the Dulles Metro Rail Silver Line is completed, it is estimated that close to 10,000 people riding the subway each day will depend on signage designed by Mimar Architects and Engineers.
While some may believe that signage is no big deal and that you just type something which a computer prints and is mounted on a wall, "its a lot more complicated than that" explains Mimar Architects and Engineers Vice President for Graphic Design, Julia Dougherty, SEGD.
"Successful signage must consider the orientation, experiences and expectations of the navigator," continues Dougherty, "we need to design a system that expedites the passenger's desire to get to their destination as quickly as possible. Along the way there are considerations such as flow, activity, obstructions, safety, clarity, reliability, discovery and coordination along with quantity and quality."
Signage produced by Mimar Architects and Engineers is increasingly in demand throughout the region. In addition to the new DC Metro Silver Line, Mimar has completed a full DC Metro System Orange/Blue Line signage rehabilitation, a system for Newark Liberty Airport and is being promoted during this time as the National AIA attempts to highlight the impact of women on Architecture. |
Julia Dougherty, SEGD is a rising star among regional graphic designers. Under her leadership, Mimar's Graphic Design department has grown 300% in just two years due to the volume of repeat clients.
