Mimar Architects and Engineers CEO and President Kal Bhatti, AIA was presented the "Designing Leadership: Executive Development for the Arts, Culture and Creative Sector" certificate by the Wharton School of Business Aresty Institute of Executive Education, IBM and the Arts and Business Council of Greater Philadelphia.
The course was conducted by faculty from Wharton and consultants from IBM.
"Designing Leadership is at the cutting edge of leadership theory and thinking today," said Bhatti, "it not only has to do with leading creative people, as in leading designers, but also in designing the firm so that employees have a chance to be leaders."
|
This type of methodology is important to Mimar Architects and Engineers as the firm continues to grow and offers more opportunities to young people. This style of leadership ensures that there will be continuity from project to project through time.
"Our clients are the true beneficiaries of this training" continued Bhatti, "by implementing designing leadership techniques, they will see newer more innovative solutions which will arrive quicker and yet be more thought out because the team is less hierarchical and more decentralized."

Mimar Guide to Leadership Styles
|
One of the keys to Designing Leadership is understanding Leadership Style
Daniel Goleman in his book "Primal Leadership" describes the 6 different leadership styles.
1. Visionary - articulate where group is going but not how it will get there. 2. Coaching - focuses on developing individuals and how to improve performance. 3. Affiliative - emphasizes group teamwork and harmony. 4. Democratic - leader taps the collective wisdom of the entire group. 5. Pacesetting - doing things better and faster, establishing a tempo. 6. Commanding - direct command and subordination similar to the military.
The leadership styles are like tools and the leader must use the appropriate style for each situation. |
