Dear Friends, Throughout the year, our Delaware Sea Grant scientists, educators and outreach specialists travel throughout our state and beyond to conduct science and outreach programs to serve Delaware. Whether we are at the University of Delaware in Newark or Lewes, collaborating with a Sea Grant program in another state, or visiting a foreign country to share the Sea Grant model, we are inspired to continue our mission. We at Delaware Sea Grant, along with the University of Delaware College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, thank you for your support and partnership in 2014, and wish you peace and goodwill in the New Year. Warm wishes,
Nancy Targett , Dean & Director

COLLABORATIONS: Shellfish AquacultureWith Delaware shellfish aquaculture regulations published in August 2014, DESG continues to provide applied research, demonstration and technology transfer in this area.
A team of scientists and economists, led by Sunny Jardine in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, was awarded a multi-year research grant from the National Sea Grant program to explore the economics of ecosystem services from oyster aquaculture. In addition, USDA awarded UD's Sustainable Coastal Communities Initiative a Rural Business Enterprise Grant to research and develop a branding strategy for Inland Bay aquaculture products, an effort being led by DESG's coastal communities development specialist Ed Lewandowski. John Ewart, DESG's aquaculture specialist, continues to support aquaculture education in Delaware, serving as a content expert and providing educational opportunities to potential growers.

OUTREACH: Community Flood Maps
DESG recently unveiled interactive flood risk awareness maps for 10 communities in Sussex County, many of which have experienced significant bayside flooding in recent years, especially during Hurricane Sandy. Each community's flood map is shown with an interactive before/after slider tool that enables the viewer to visualize both the landward extent of flooding (horizontal) and floodwater depths (vertical) expected to occur during the 100-year flood (or 1 percent annual chance flood event).
