TinaFrom the Youth Minister: A Word from Tina

Hello All!

We had a blast enjoying the beautiful weather this past Sunday at EYC! I continue to be gratethankful for the youth here at St. James. It is such a joy and honor to work with them week after week.

But Right Now...

I want to take a couple minutes here to let you all know about a really neat opportunity that is coming up for the youth of. St. James. To do this, I have to tell you all first about my friends Farmer Bill, and his wife Pastor Sharon.

Bill and Sharon Welsch live in Mars Hill, NC. After witnessing the need for food in their county, they were compelled by the Lord's command to feed the hungry to figure out what they could do to help meet some of these needs for their community.

Their journey has taken them from growing food seasonally to  providing potatoes, pinto beans, and corn meal to the hungry year round. Through their efforts and the support of others they are serving 630 families a month. This requires thousands of pounds of food, and lots of weighing, labeling, packaging, etc. to make sure all the food they bring in gets to the distribution centers when they need it.

I had the opportunity to meet Bill and Sharon a few years ago now, and see their operation first hand, both as a land based operation, and most recently as a home based operation. It is absolutely incredible how much these two have poured in to this ministry of theirs over the years. They have oriented their whole household, their whole way of life around their hearts for feeding the hungry.

And on April 17th, they have extended an opportunity to the St. James Youth and Youth Volunteers to have a chance to look in to and join with them in this mission. We will have a group to depart around 1:00pm, head up to Mars Hill, serve alongside them, and eat dinner in Asheville on the way back.

As always, this church, and this youth ministry, is above all a welcoming community. Please know youth are always welcome to invite their friends to our programming and events.
Have a great rest of the week!

Peace,

Tina Boyd
Youth Minister

This year has totally evaporated. In the 4s class we are now learning our new songs for Mother's Day and Graduation. It  hardly feels like 7 months ago we were singing our September songs and learning each other's names!

There is never a dull moment in our class, we recently celebrated Dr Seuss's Birthday, the whole 4 days were filled with making fun crafts like Lorax masks and cat in the hat masks, snacks with cheddar goldfish to go along with one of the famous books (One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish) and then even making green eggs and ham! There were a few disgusted faces at the thought of eating the green eggs but most everyone tried them, "Loved them" and even asked for more!!

This week we will be celebrating St.Patrick's day, on Thursday we will all be wearing green. Word got out though that if you don't wear green that day then you will get pinched. So I'm pretty sure no one will forget, but just in case, the teachers will have some green necklaces to save the day.

Our star chart is looking totally Awesome, it has really filled up now. In between all the fun we have, we squeeze in some testing too! That testing will conclude the 2nd week of April, after that we will begin evaluations for their year end reports. Kindergarten is just around the corner.

When we return from Spring break it will be all systems go!! We have a field trip to the Peace Center to watch "Goodnight Moon", we'll have our Mother's Day celebration where the children will sing songs and treat their Mom's with a special gift they made and they'll enjoy some muffins and juice too. We will have a St.James t-shirt signing day where each child will write their name on their friends t-shirts! We have a lot of children this year with summer birthdays  so to celebrate each of them we will have a Birthday bash/ice cream party. Then finally on our last day we will all relax and enjoy pizza and watch a fun movie!! That night will then be the Graduation ceremony which is just too precious for words! Everyone is also eager for our year end picnic at Herdklotz Park.

frazeeFrazee Homework Ministry

The Frazee Dream Center is a free preschool, after school & summer program for under resourced children in the downtown Greenville area. The program offers assistance and guidance to children ages 3-16 in the areas of academics, character development, sportsmanship and emotional wellness. St. James parishioners volunteer on the 1st and 3rd Thursday afternoons from 4:15-5:30 as academic tutors in this program and assist children in improving their reading and mathematical skills. Additional volunteers are always welcome!

The next St. James volunteer homework help day is April 21st from 4:15 to 5:30.  Homework is due on Friday so Thursday is a good day to help students finish homework and study for spelling tests.
