Want to learn more about Fair Trade in the beautiful land of Nicaragua?  What are you doing
January 23-30, 2016?

Each year the Presbyterian Hunger Program leads a one-week delegation of 12 Presbyterians from around the United States.  Participants experience the benefits of Fair Trade first-hand when they visit coffee, craft, and sewing cooperatives and have the opportunity to deepen their commitments to global discipleship in learning about the items we buy from clothes to coffee, handicrafts to Sweat-Free T-Shirts.

PHP has begun accepting applications for their
2016 Nicaragua Delegation - perfect for anyone involved in a congregation, college, or camp that uses Fair Trade coffee, tea, or T-shirts.  It's also great for anyone who has hosted a holiday bazaar with Fair Trade products or who simply wants to learn more.

Annual Neighborhood Meetings

Recap of the
Neighborhood Gathering at
 New Hope Presbyterian Church
 Franklin, TN
by Rev. Sally Hughes

The Presbytery of Middle Tennessee's Central Cluster Neighborhood Gathering was held on July 29, 2015 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Franklin, TN.  Churches that were represented were Bethesda, Historic Franklin, New Hope and Spring; Hill.

After a blessing, we gathered around a table in the New Hope sanctuary and enjoyed a wonderful meal of sandwiches and fruit.  Rev. Pat McGeachy did a fabulous job in leading this group in an ice-breaker game.

The group engaged in a lively and helpful discussion of questions that were asked and then shared some community partnerships...please click here, to read more about the questions asked and the shared community partnerships,

All those present enthusiastically discussed their church strengths and touched on some of the challenges faced by each church.  The meeting was closed with the hope that this group get together again and stay in communication with each other regarding youth events, Bible studies, community projects and special services.  The meeting was adjourned by singing "We Are One in the Spirit."

SOUTHMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, NASHVILLE, TN
CELEBRATES
 NANCY YOUNG'S
 55-YEARS of MUSIC MINISTRY

On Sunday, May 31, 2015, Southminster Presbyterian Church celebrated the 55-years of music ministry of Nancy Young.  Nancy worked devotedly as Music
Nancy Young
Director alongside each of the seven pastors during the church's history.   The congregation was joined by many of Nancy's family members and friends who came to honor Nancy upon her retirement.

The Service of Worship and Celebration was filled with joyful music, including many of Nancy's favorite hymns and the anthem "Sweet Harmony" by composer Pepper Choplin.   This anthem was commissioned by Southminster for the 50-Year Anniversary Celebration of the church in 2010.  It was dedicated to Nancy Young at that time to celebrate her Music Ministry.  Musical participants in the service were: former Organist Susan Steppe of Memphis, TN; Pianist Luke Roman; Southminster members Barbara Cobb, Nancy Roberts and Paul Vandermeer; and the Southminster Choir under the direction of new Music Director Bethany Reynolds...read more.
