December 2015
What a Year!

As the new year approaches it's time to look back on all we've accomplished in 2015. This year we conserved another 136 acres of open space in Summit County along the Weber River. Volunteers like you have donated over 600 hours of valuable time, and this has enabled us to continue to focus on saving land. We are thankful for all your support!

We want to especially thank the following volunteers for helping this past year:

 Highlights of 2015:
Wild and Scenic Film Festival

In April, Summit Land Conservancy brought the Wild and Scenic Film Festival to two great locations: Tower Theatre in Salt Lake City, and Prospector Theatre in Park City. Movie goers enjoyed short films about extreme mountain biking, an outdoor kindergarten in Switzerland, a teeny snail's perspective on the world and much more! Thank you to the awesome volunteers who came out to help at both showings and showed their support for the Conservancy and the environmental community!
Kids Programs

This year, Summit Land Conservancy introduced two new youth programs to help connect children to the land. We spent 100 hours learning, exploring, and playing on properties protected by the Conservancy with our Kids Outdoors and Outdoor Explorers summer camp programs. Thank you to the the fun folks who came out to volunteer and share their love for nature with  these future land conservators!
Blue Sky Bash

On August 15th, Summit Land Conservancy hosted our first-ever Blue Sky Bash at the beautiful Blue Sky Ranch in Wanship, Utah. This gala was a night for the books with delicious food catered by High West Distillery and an exciting live auction. The night was topped off with some boot stomping country tunes by Artie Hemphill and the Iron Horse Band. We had an all-star crew of volunteers who came out to assist us with this event, and we are thankful for all their time and effort! Also, thank you to our volunteer committee who planned the amazing party!
Adopt an Easement

Thank you to our Adopt an Easement volunteers who have provided support to our Stewardship Director this year! We greatly appreciate you keeping your eyes and ears open while out on the trails you love! Protecting over 3,000 acres of open space is a lot of work, and your monitoring reports and observations help us address any issues on the land and steward our 27 properties more efficiently.
Hops Hunters

What's more fun than hunting for hops on protected land? Thank you to all the people who joined us this summer to scout populations of wild hops on properties preserved by the Conservancy. On September 1st, we rallied our volunteer troops early in the morning and successfully collected 25 pounds of hops cones that were brewed in our special edition ale "Clothing Hoptional" with Wasatch Brew Pub. Our Hoppy Hour party was bigger than ever, and we couldn't have asked for a better night of celebrating open space with good friends and brew.
Other Opportunities

AmeriCorps Internship Opportunity!
Are you interested in joining the Summit Land Conservancy dream team? We have an opening for an AmeriCorps intern to help run next year's summer camps and Hops Hunters program. This paid position is a great way to get your foot in the door and learn more about local land conservation! For more info email [email protected].

Kids Outdoors
Free play in nature is the most common influence on the development of adult conservation values, yet it is vanishing from children's lives. Kids Outdoors restores nature play and connects our local youth to the land. Volunteer as a Play Naturalist, and inspire a future conservationist! Learn more and sign up here.

Recycle Fridays
Free time on Fridays? Want to enjoy some sun while doing some good? We need someone to help us with our recycling efforts every other Friday! Learn more and sign up here .
