September 2015
Hop Hop Hurrah!

On September 1st, beer and open space lovers rallied together to collect hops to be brewed in  Wasatch Brewery's special edition ale, Clothing Hoptional. Our incredible volunteers gathered over 20 pounds of wild hops from open spaces protected by the Conservancy, all while indulging in delicious hop fragrances and good conversation. The afternoon was capped off with a tasty meal provided by Wasatch Brew Pub and (of course) one big "CHEERS"! Thank you to all the great people who set their alarms early to come out and show support at this year's Hops Harvest. It was one for the books!

Couldn't make the Hops Harvest but want to partake in the fun? Join us October 14th at Wasatch Brew Pub for our "Hoppy Hour" celebration party and make a toast to open space. Proceeds will benefit Summit Land Conservancy and help protect Summit County's beautiful landscapes. Drink beer, save land. How easy can it be?! To RSVP, please email [email protected].

We will need volunteers to assist us during the Hoppy Hour evening of shenanigans. If you love a good fiesta, come enjoy one of the best parties in town and help save land - what's there to lose?! Volunteers are needed to help with hanging posters before the event, checking people in at the door, selling our one-of-a-kind Clothing Hoptional T-shirts made by our good friends at MtnRanks, and other miscellaneous duties. If you are interested in savoring a pint of locally harvested wild hops ale and volunteering for a great cause, email [email protected].

Let's be Social!

'Tis the Season

'Tis the season of Live Giving and handlebar mustaches! Every November the Park City community comes together for 24 hours of giving to support the nonprofits that make our town special. Last year, with help from Boot Guy (our lovable mascot) and all our amazing open space supporters, Summit Land Conservancy placed 3rd on the Live PC Give PC charts and raised $35,923 from 464 unique donors! This year we hope to surpass those achievements - it's a big goal, but we CAN DO IT.

We are looking for witty, creative individuals to help staff with developing our 2015 Live PC Give PC campaign. If you enjoy Boot Guy, social media, design, and supporting Park City's most fun nonprofit, this is the job for you! We have some exciting ideas brewing, but need extra hands to help bring them to fruition. Please email [email protected] to learn more.
Be a Play Naturalist!

School is back in session, and that means it's time for another year of Kids Outdoors! Kids Outdoors is a unique program that aims to restore unstructured free play in nature to local youth in Park City. Nature play is quickly vanishing from children's lives, however it is an essential component to growing up. It helps foster the development of children's imaginations, cognitive, reasoning, and observation skills, social interactions, levels of fitness, self-discipline and concentration. Did you know that kids who play outside exhibit less symptoms of ADHD? That's not all. Nature play is the most common influence on the development of adult conservation values too. As an environmental organization that works to protect and conserve open spaces, we believe this program has great potential to help kids grow, and eventually carry on the work of conservation years down the road.

This year, Summit Land Conservancy has partnered with Holy Cross Ministries and the Park City School District to bring Kids Outdoors to THREE local elementary schools. (That's a lot of kids!) Each Tuesday, we will accompany our future conservationists and stewards on properties protected by the Conservancy. Kids will have the chance to run wild and free in nature with no rules and regulations. Kids will have the chance to just be kids.

As our program has wonderfully grown in the span of the past year, we are looking for free-spirited, nature-loving individuals to help chaperone these trips. You can be a Play Naturalist and watch the magic unfold!
