RepMo Ready Technology Rollout Plan Board Approved
We are excited to announce that the Board of Education unanimously approved the proposal to implement the proposed RepMo Ready Technology Rollout Plan at the March meeting. The Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and IT departments have worked vigorously alongside the district technology committee to come up with an implementation plan that will get devices into staff and student hands along with the support and training needed to roll out a plan to best fit the needs of our district.
The below logo and slogan were created for two reasons: 1. We feel our district teachers are "READY" for and seeking expanded technology to enhance the classroom experience for their students. 2. It is vital that our focus be on getting our students prepared for life beyond high school, and technology is a large piece of the puzzle. They must be READY for the global world awaiting them by having the skills necessary to navigate and connect through technology in order to be competitive in the workforce. The mission, vision and purpose of the RepMo Ready plan are listed below as they are the driving force behind this implementation. It is vital that the device be viewed as a tool in enhancing the educational experience for our students, it is not the end point. To ensure this, the district has created a plan that focuses on getting teachers the resources and ongoing support that they need from both the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and IT departments. The district is dedicated to being 2:1/1:1 by the 2018-2019 school year. This means that every student (or every two students in the lower grades due to developmental needs) will have their own device to utilize for school work. Below outlines the timeline with specific information on PBL (Project Based Learning) and BL (Blended) integration--two instructional techniques that will begin being expanded in our district--more information to come on this! The very bottom indicates a snapshot view of technology expansion from preschool to high school and the associated implementation year.
As we discussed at the "Summer in February" SI Day meeting with teachers and building administrators, there will be training opportunities this summer for teachers to attend in exchange for receiving a device that can be used in their classroom. This training will also take the place of the required FLEX SI Day for the 2015-2016 school year. The schedule for these summer trainings will be distributed next week so you have ample time to plan accordingly.
More information, including frequently asked questions for both staff and parents, will be distributed in the coming weeks. In addition, to elaborate on this plan and what it means for our community, a second Family Engagement Night will be held on Thursday, May 14 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Republic High School Auditorium to focus on the RepMo Ready implementation. We hope to see you there! Thank you to the Springfield NewsLeader for the story in today's newspaper. One quick correction to make, the article says 5th and 6th grade will get devices by 2016, but that should actually be 5th and 8th grade. Click HERE to read more!

Republic to Participate in GO CAPS
The Republic School District is one of 11 area school districts to take part in the Greater Ozarks Center for Advanced Professional Students, or GO CAPS beginning next school year. This program, modeled after the Northland CAPS program out of the Kansas City area, will allow 200 juniors and seniors from area high schools to have a non-traditional classroom experience while also gathering some insight into future career possibilities. Those participating in GO CAPS will spend half their day in a satellite classroom which will be housed in a partnering business location. During this time students will be provided the opportunity to learn inside a real business gathering knowledge from field experts. They will complete hands-on workplace projects and internships based on their individual interests.
When creating this program district and industry leaders focused on making it available and attractive to all student types while addressing the current gap in equipping our juniors and seniors for their future workforce plans. More information regarding the regional business partners participating, the enrollment process and course credit details will be forthcoming. Republic School District is excited to be a part of this innovative experience for our students!

Upcoming State Assessments
ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL INFORMATION
On April 14 the Republic School District will begin state assessments. Students in grades 3-8 will be participating in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level Assessments. These tests evaluate students' progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards. The MAP Grade-Level Assessments include assessments in the subject areas of English language arts (grades 3-8),mathematics (grades 3-8), and science (grades 5 and 8).
This spring, for the first time, the MAP Grade-Level Assessments will be administered online. This approach represents a significant improvement over traditional paper-and-pencil assessments. Online assessments offer unique ways of assessing content and standards that are difficult to assess using paper-and-pencil tests. In addition, we expect test results to be returned to us much sooner than in the past.
Individual Student Reports in the areas of English language arts (grades 3-8) and mathematics (grades 3-8) will be sent home with students prior to the end of this school year. Due to a more time intensive scoring process, science reports will be distributed upon students returning to school for the 2015-2016 school year.
HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION
Every April and May, students take End-of-Course (EOC) assessments as required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This year, RHS will be giving assessments in Algebra I, Algebra II, English II, Biology I, and Government. The following schedule will be used for these assessments:
Algebra II-- April 21st Biology I-- April 22nd & 23rd Government-- April 30th English II-- May 1st & 4th Algebra I-- May 5th & 6th
In addition, all juniors will participate in state wide ACT testing on April 28th.

We are also tremendously thankful to the Republic Police Department for their increased presence in our school buildings last week. We had officers helping sell the paper badges, reading to our classrooms, eating lunch and breakfast with our students, and enjoying recess time. It was a great week!
