Alliance Makes Pitch for Development Partners
In February, President of the Alliance, Cathy O'Connor, and Project Managers Dustin Akers and Cassi Poor attended the Public-Private Partnership Conference in Dallas, TX.
As a featured speaker during the Deal Days segment, O'Connor presented development opportunities to a room filled with more than 100 development, architecture, engineer and finance professionals from across the country. Potential development opportunities presented included transit-oriented development along the MAPS 3 modern streetcar route, mixed-use development in Core to Shore adjacent to the MAPS 3 Central Park, and a headquarters hotel to support the MAPS 3 Convention Center.
Historic Santa Fe Station Acquired for New Intermodal Transit Hub
Nearly 200 city and state civic leaders attended an open house in late February, celebrating the City's recent acquisition of the Santa Fe StationThe station, located at E.K. Gaylord and Sheridan
Avenue, originally opened in 1932. Plans include converting the station into an intermodal transit hub, serving the MAPS 3 Modern Streetcar, Amtrak's Heartland Flyer and potentially, a future commuter rail system. TAP Architecture has been selected to design the renovation. The City received a $13.5 million TIGER grant to assist with the improvements, along with funding from MAPS 3, Project 180, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments.
New Housing Proposed Near the Civic Center Music Hall
The Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority recently designated Civic Centre Flats, LLC, managed by developers Ron and Jason Bradshaw, as conditional redeveloper for the property located between Couch Drive and 2nd Street, just east of N. Lee Avenue. The projected $6 million, 32-unit, for-sale housing development would replace an existing surface parking lot. Over the next 60 days, Authority staff will work with the redevelopers to establish a Redevelopment Agreement outlining development plans, financing and other terms. The Agreement will be brought forth to the Board of Commissioners for review and approval. The Authority issued a request for proposals in October 2013 for the site, located within its Central Business District Urban Renewal Plan.
Project Managers Attain CNU-Accreditation
ULI Oklahoma hosted a three week series of training courses on new urbanism, led by Congress for New Urbanism (CNU) Board Member and Director of the City Development Department of El Paso, TX, Mathew McElroy. McElroy was a featured speaker at the 2013 Mayor's Development Roundtable, which spiked ULI Oklahoma's interest in leading efforts to provide new urbanism educational opportunities to local professionals involved in land-use decisions and development. Project Managers Dustin Akers and Cassi Poor were among the 35 ULI members who passed the CNU-Accreditation exam, with an impressive 100% pass rate.
