Railroad Quiet Zone Funding Plan Approved

On May 28th, City Council approved a funding plan to establish a quiet zone along the BNSF rail line that passes through downtown Oklahoma City. A quiet zone is a designated area in which the engineer operating a train is not required to sound the whistle prior to passing at an at-grade crossing.

Without a quiet zone, the area between NE 7th and NE 16th experiences numerous daily soundings of the whistle due to the high number of trains that travel along the line. More than $600,000 of pledges representing 28 organizations, companies and individuals will assist in funding the improvements needed to satisfy Federal Railroad Administration requirements.

Update: Convention Center Hotel

The Alliance for Economic Development of Oklahoma City has contracted Stone Consulting to do a market analysis for the potential convention center hotel. The headquarters convention center hotel would support the future MAPs 3 Convention Center scheduled to start construction in 2016 at a cost of $250 million.
