Summer Home Tips

1. Window check

Ensure that the hot

summer heat stays

outside by checking and maintaining your home's windows. One of the key items in window maintenance is routinely checking the sealants. Ensure that both inside

and out are secured, and caulk any open areas in between. Also, check weather-stripping for any faults and replace it immediately if there is an issue. Taking care of windows will keep your home looking and feeling good.

TIP:  Use a small paintbrush or toothbrush when cleaning windows to get to hard-to-reach areas.

2. Pressure wash the exterior

An important element of maintaining your home's exterior is to routinely

clean it, and the easiest

way to do so is to pressure wash the walls, patios, walks & decks. Do it to remove dirt, stains and mildew, especially prior

to painting or staining.

Before you wash, just

ensure that you cover

plants, electrical outlets, windows and doors to

avoid any DIY mishaps.

THE WINNING NUMBERS

They won't give you a cash payout, but you will get something better: A longer healthier life.

2.7 days to stay home with the flu. 60% of workers go back when they're still sick, spreading the flu or making themselves sicker.

2 hours you can safely watch TV each day. More hours increase triglycerides in your blood and lower good cholesterol, which can
harm your heart.

7+ ideal daily servings of fruits and vegetables. The
extra servings can reduce your risk of early death by 42%, according to a British study.

60 to 100 heartbeats per minute at rest. A gain of
10 beats per minute over normal increases your risk
of dying from heart disease by 10 to 18 percent,
a new study finds.

7 hours of sleep per night you need to control weight.
Healthy people who slept five or fewer hours per night
were 50% more likely to become obese compared
with those who get a full night's rest.

1,500 maximum  amount of sodium, in milligrams, an average adult should consume daily. Most of it comes
from processed foods, so substitute fresh whole foods
 to lower blood pressure.

1.2 healthiest ratio waist to height. A larger waist
increases the risk of metabolic syndrome, a cluster
of factors including high blood pressure and high
cholesterol, which raises the chances of heart
disease and stroke.

June Is National Adopt-a-Shelter Cat Month

An estimated 70 million stray cats live in the United States.  About 3.4 million cats enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Around 37% are adopted. Less than 5% of stray cats are returned to their owners.

About 92 million cats have homes in the United States;

they always live longer, healthier lives than strays.  Adult

cats are great pets, and they are calm, affectionate and

 usually have skills like mousing.

Adopting a kitten or older cat from a shelter means you're

saving its life. And you'll receive an already vaccinated,

spayed or neutered pet. Many shelters even waive fees

on adult cats during June.

 The best way to celebrate

 Adopt-a-Shelter Cat month is to

adopt a shelter cat! There's a

special cute, cuddly kitten or

calm, older cat waiting for you.

PLEASE NOTE:  As a suggestion, if you cannot adopt a

cat, we suggest donating cat litter to the shelters; they

definitely need and appreciate the help.
