Costly Claims Drive up St. Pete's 2015 Workers' Compensation Tab
Spending estimates for St. Petersburg, Fla's 2015 budget include a report that the city's workers' compensation costs will rise by $3.2 million, a 45 percent increase over 2014. Officials say the costliest claims routinely come from the fire, police and sanitation departments. Read More

The keys for determination are: 1) where the employment is principally localized; 2) where the claimant regularly works; 3) where the contract of hire was made; and 4) where the claimant is domiciled. U.S. Still the Leader in Insurance

A new market report from Munich Re shows that the United States remains the leader in the insurance market, and it is not likely to give up that position any time soon. Its premium volume is predicted to increase to more than $1.645 trillion by 2020. If that happens, the U.S. market would be more than twice as large as the second-largest market, Japan. Read More 

Ex-Players Call NFL a Pill-Pusher

For decades the NFL illegally supplied painkillers to players to keep them in the game, without telling them the severity of their injuries or the side effects of the drugs, former players say in a federal class action. Read More

Florida VA Boots Veterans, Dogs
Several combat veterans suffering from PTSD were denied access to a Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Florida because their service dogs apparently didn't have the proper paperwork. The vets were rebuffed by security officers, and when they refused to leave the situation nearly spiraled out of control. Read More
