Traffic Deaths Up in Fracking Areas
Here's some irony for you. The booming business of extracting oil and natural gas is contributing to a spike in traffic fatalities. An Associated Press analysis of traffic deaths and U.S. census data in six drilling states shows that in some places, fatalities have more than quadrupled since 2004. Read More

Samsung Will Compensate for Workers' Cancer Claims
Samsung Electronics Co., Asia's biggest maker of memory chips, has apologized and said it will compensate chip factory employees who developed cancer while working for the firm. Samsung also withdrew from a legal bid to avoid paying compensation in a battle that has been going on for nine years. Read More 
Colorado Court Upholds Firefighter's Workers' Compensation Claim

Proving once again that being a volunteer is a good thing, the Colorado Court of Appeals has issued an Opinion that a firefighter's time spent as a volunteer firefighter and as a trainee at the fire academy counts toward his total years of service under Colorado's workers' compensation cancer presumption statute. N.D. Is Tops in Conning Municipal Credit Ranking; N.C. 'Most Improved'

The western and southern states, specifically the states that range from North Dakota to Texas, and also Florida, continue to receive the highest rankings in Conning's semi-annual State of the States Municipal Credit Research report. Read More
