WCC Supports Juvenile Justice Bill

The WCC testified in favor of Assembly Bill 387, which would return first-time, nonviolent 17-year-old offenders to the juvenile justice system. The Assembly Committee on Corrections took no further action on the bill.

 

WCC Testifies on School Mascot Bill

The WCC testified for information on Senate Bill 317, which would make various changes to the complaint process for objecting to a school board's use of a race-based nickname, logo, mascot, or team name. The Senate Committee on Government Operations and State Licensing passed the bill by a vote of 7-4. The Assembly is scheduled to vote on it on October 15.

There will be invited speakers and the hearing will also be open to the public for comments. The hearing will be from 2pm - 8pm.
