TELL CONGRESS TO SUPPORT COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM

BACKGROUND

The U.S. Congress is in the process of overhauling our nation's immigration laws. The Senate is currently considering S.744, "The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act," which is expected to pass the Senate with amendments. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is closely monitoring the bill's progress to ensure that all amendments serve the rule of law and the cause of human rights. The House is drafting its own legislation, which is expected to be introduced mid-summer.

WCC POSITION

The Catholic bishops of Wisconsin strongly support comprehensive immigration reform. As they noted in a statement issued today, "For the first time in nearly a generation, our nation has the opportunity to fix our broken immigration system into one that promotes human rights, legal behavior, family unity, and secure borders."

ACTION REQUESTED

Please immediately call Senator Ron Johnson, Senator Tammy Baldwin, and your Representative.

  • Urge them to pass compassionate immigration reform.
  • Tell them that you agree with the positions that the USCCB is taking on amendments to S.744.

You can also send an electronic postcard through the Justice for Immigrants website.
