A Message from the Principal: Reading Everywhere (Even in the Bathroom)

To increase the opportunities that all WEDJ students have to read, write, and improve their literacy skills, we have been working hard to help students get library cards for the DC Public Library system. The Woodridge branch of the library is just over a mile from WEDJ, but with a library card you can always check out and return books at any library branch. READ MORE>>

Please Complete the WEDJ Parent Survey

We want to know what you think about your family's experience at WEDJ. Please be assured that we take your feedback seriously and will use it to make our school the best it can be. Click here to take the survey.

If you cannot complete the survey online and need a hard copy, please ask in the office. The deadline for completing surveys is November 27.
Home Library Initiative Fills WEDJ Families' Homes with Books

When Dr. Smith became principal at WEDJ and looked around, she discovered closets and storage rooms crammed with books that teachers weren't using. Backstage Pass
Kirov BalletWondering what's going on in the classrooms at WEDJ? Here are some of the fun and enriching activities students have been engaged in this month.

Ms. Hamilton's PreK-4 class has put together a small presentation of our favorite songs, stories and dances. We have been practicing and are very excited to share our talents with an audience. We're looking forward to performing for our families on November 20.

The kindergarten students in Ms. Kensler's class did an outstanding job sharing their healthy habits projects. Each student was responsible for demonstrating he learned about being healthy. We received a variety of projects including original poems, songs, poster board displays, booklets, and even the use of a piano! Bravo kindergarten!

Bringing the Past and Present Together with English Language Arts and Social Studies

Here's what's happening in English language arts and social studies classes with Ms. Rave and Ms. Almonte this November.

3rd grade ~ We're studying the branches of government, read a biography of Sandra Day O'Connor, and learned about the Supreme Court.

4th grade ~ We're learning Native American history and we built Native American dwellings out of playdough.

5th grade ~ We're investigating the antebellum south, read primary sources on the Underground Railroad and wrote a letter as Frederick Douglass, and we're advising Abraham Lincoln on policy about the railroad.
