Veterans Day - Every Day? You Better Believe It! |
November 11th marks the United States federal holiday of Veterans Day. This holiday honors military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. It is a day filled with parades, BBQs, family gatherings, and the recognition and respect for our military. Certainly, we, as a people or nation, would not exist today with our freedoms, rights, and blessings without the service and sacrifice our our military service personnel. However, we should re-think and re-adjust how we treat and honor our veterans.
Certainly, the day of November 11th - Veterans Day - is a well respected holiday filled with people from all walks of life doing something worthy - honoring our veterans. Let's all take this a step further and make it a point and concerted effort to honor our veterans EVERY DAY. That's right - Veterans Day should be celebrated every day. If you meet a person who has served our country in any of the branches of the United States Armed Forces, thank that person directly and enthusiastically. There is no need to wait until November 11th to roll around to post a photo of a veteran, thank a veteran, or better yet perform a good deed or act of kindness on behalf of a veteran and his or her family.
American author Tom Clancy (1947-2014), said it well, "The U.S. Military is us. There is no truer representation of a country than the people that it sends into the field to fight for it. The people who wear our uniform and carry our rifles into combat are our kids, and our job is to support them, because they're protecting us."
Let's take that positive energy from November 11th and continue to thank and respect our veterans throughout the year. Veterans Day - Every Day? You Better Believe It!
