Liza Long is a mental health advocate, author, educator and mother of four children, one of whom has bipolar disorder.
She is best known for her essay that went viral, "I am Adam Lanza's Mother," which she wrote in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT. She wrote about her fears for her own son's mental illness, and the struggles to find treatment for him and support for her family, and herself.
Liza's book, The Price of Silence: A Mom's Perspective on Mental Illness, explores how we address mental illness, especially in children, who are funneled through a system that far too often leads to prison. She has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Erin Burnett Out Front, Anderson Cooper 360, Dr. Oz, and other programs.
We are thrilled to welcome Liza to the Luncheon and look forward to hearing her message about ending the stigma of mental illness.

Summer Book Read
In anticipation of Liza Long's appearance at the Women's Fund Luncheon, we are encouraging a community book read of Liza's book, The Price of Silence: A Mom's Perspective on Mental Illness. Her book takes a look at how society stigmatizes mental illness - including in children - and the devastating societal cost.
Help spread the word to your book club, women's organization or faith community.
