Will Power Leaves a Life Changing Legacy
  Will Power logo

Women's Fund donor Barbara Bermel is using her Will Power to ensure the long-term future of women and girls in the Fox Valley.  By including the Women's Fund in their estate plan, Barb and her husband Thomas Beyer will make sure that their commitment to local women and girls continues even after their lifetimes. "Since we have no children and are pretty certain all the close relatives don't need our money, we want to give back to the community. We chose the Community Foundation as the vehicle to support the causes that are important to us and it was easy to designate a percentage to the Women's Fund."

"I support the Women's Fund for a variety of reasons: young women need mentors and assistance in choosing a future that is meaningful and self-sufficient. Older women need help managing their changing world as resources dwindle, spouse and friends die, and children have their own responsibilities. Those of us in the middle can hold up the two ends of our women's spectrum of life. "

You can join Barb as a member of our Will Power Society by making a planned gift to the Women's Fund. Gifts can be as simple as including a bequest in your will or naming the Women's Fund as a beneficiary of your life insurance or retirement plan.  Contact Becky Boulanger for more information at 830-1290.

It's because of you that area non-profits received a record amount of grant funding last year, bringing the Women's Fund giving total to more than $677,000.  It's because of you that we are preparing our next generation of female leaders through the Girls' Grantmaking Project that provides leadership and philanthropy education to high school girls.  It's because of you that women are safer, healthier and more self-sufficient thanks to grants that fund education and job training, access to preventative care and protection from violence.

Help us continue to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Fox Valley women and girls by giving a gift to the Women's Fund this year.

If you are interested in giving gifts of securities, please contact Becky Boulanger at 830-1290 or bboulanger@womensfundfvr.org for the necessary procedures.

 Issue Spotlight:  Adult Older Women

Our Adult Older Women Steering Committee met for the first time last week.  There are an overwhelming number of issues that adult older women face and this group is charged with sorting them out, and prioritizing, to see what sort of positive social change we can make.  The committee will have $5,000 to fund an idea that will help older women in the Fox Valley.

As part of its Poverty, Welfare and Income Security Initiative, the Institute for Women's Policy Research is studying Social Security and the important role it plays in preventing poverty among older adults. IWPR's research shows that women aged 65 and over receive two-thirds of their income from Social Security on average. In 2009, 29 percent of older women were living on Social Security alone. You can learn more about the IWPR initiative at http://www.iwpr.org/initiatives/retirement-social-security

The Social Security Administration has resources available on their website specifically for women. Visit http://www.socialsecurity.gov/women/ for more information, including a Fact Sheet that shows how Social Security impacts women.
