We love Fall! I mean who doesn't love the cool crisp weather, the changing leaves and of course, Pumpkin Spice everything. But living in South Florida -- as beautiful as it is -- sometimes makes one long for noticeable changes of the season. Sometimes our only clue that Fall is upon us is the fact that large stores have started putting out their Halloween candy. Here's how Raging Wool will be welcoming the Fall!

Newport II cotton yarn
Currently we carry yarns from more than 60 different companies! Most people are familiar with the larger ones like Berroco, Casade Yarns, Malabrigo, and Plymouth Yarns. We wanted to spotlight some of the smaller companies whose yarns you may have overlooked. We think you'll be wowed by the quality and the individuality of these yarns and hopefully you'll find them as fantastic as we do.

As many of you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we have had a lot of inquiries as to how our customers can support their friends, loved ones, or complete strangers who are struggling with this and similar diseases that require chemotherapy.

Recently, we
shared on Facebook that The National Needle Arts and Woman's Day Magazine are teaming up so knitters and croch
eters can make a difference and shared tips on how to do so: here's how!

We've decided it's time to start a new Ravelry group for all of our customers. Now that we're starting to acquire an online following we wanted to have a place in Ravelry that everyone could come and catch up on, not only the latest shop news, but also all the interesting and fun info we'll soon be sharing on our blog. That's right, we have some exciting new things planned and we can't wait to share them with you all!

And we have a special Fall Treat waiting for you at the end of the newsletter!

In this issue, you'll find:
  1. Chemo Caps for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  2. Our New Ravelry Group: Raging Wool Ravelers
  3. Meet Team Raging Wool
  4. Our Big Fall Sale Coupon!

Thank you and we wish you the best of success with your projects!

chemocapsOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

We know that knitters and crocheters are some of the most generous and kind people on the planet - just look at the number of scarves that were donated for the Old South Church Boston Marathon Scarf Project! Well we need your help once again.

In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA) designers have created two free Chemo Cap patterns, one crochet and one knit. The crochet pattern, Sweet Slouch, is designed by Amy Gunderson and uses a fingering or sock weight yarn. The knit pattern, Raspberry Beanie, is designed by Lauren Sanchez and uses a worsted weight yarn.

Please remember the yarn needs to be soft since it will be worn against sensitive skin. We recommend cotton or acrylic yarn, like Berroco's Comfort or Mandarin Petit. You can check out our blog with some tips and a review of how both yarns performed using the these two patterns. So raid your stash for some soft yarn or come by the shop and we'll help you pick some out.

Once completed, bring it in to the store and we'll send them off to Memorial Cancer Institute, Cleveland Clinic or a local treatment center of your choice. Of course you can always work up one and send it off to a charity of your choice, too. We'll be collecting them from now until December 31st, 2014.

handdyedHand Dyed Yarn!
So many gorgeous colors and fiber options...

I've always thought of hand dying as this mysterious process. How do they get such vibrant colors? Why do fibers take dye differently? How do they get that self-striping effect? These are the questions that hand dyers answer all the time through their amazing products!

Ellyn Cooper's Yarn Sonnets

For those of us who live in South Florida it will still be warm enough for awhile to tackle some gorgeous cotton yarn projects. Ellyn Cooper started her business in 1993 selling hand-knit sweaters and eventually moved into hand-dyed yarns. Ellyn specializes in dying yarn in rich colorways in a wide range of yarns. The yarns come in many textures and different fiber contents. We carry her fantastic cotton yarn, Newport II, shop now!

Feederbrook Farm

Feederbrook Farm is a small family owned and operated farm in Maryland. They use their very own sheep, angora goats and llamas for 75% of fibers in their yarn. If they run out of wool they will buy from other local fiber producing farms. All yarns are hand dyed and hand spun by the owner using dyes that comply with the OTA (Organic Trade Association). We carry two of their popular yarns, Plumage and Common Ground Entropy. We have the tonal, 3 color and 4 color hand dyed varieties of Plumage.

One of our favorites are The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze. Formerly a dyer with Koigu, Rhichard creates stunning color ways that make you wish there were more than 24 hours in a day so you'd have more time to play with this yarn!

We carry 3 of Rhichard's gorgeous yarns, a 100% super wash fingering weight merino wool (right), a worsted weight 100% superwash merino (bottom left),  and a 100% polwarth wool worsted weight (bottom right). Love felting? Then the Polwarth is perfect for it. Are socks, shawls or gloves more your thing? Then definitely try Peppino. Or are hats, scarfs and sweaters what your family is clamoring for? From left to right: Amanda, Rosemary, Alice, Jen, Susie

We wanted to introduce the people that make Raging Wool the friendliest yarn shop in South Florida. From left to right, meet Amanda, Rosemary, Alice, Jen, and Susie! Here's a little bit about them:

Amanda is Raging Wool's newest member who blogs and helps out with social media for the shop. She's a Florida native who wishes she knew more people in cold climates so she could knit more wool hats, mittens, and scarves.

Rosemary works on Mondays and is our first fully English/Spanish bilingual knitting and crochet staffer. She has a new granddaughter who she is excited to talk about - and of course to knit and crochet things for.

Everyone should know Alice - she owns the shop! She teaches classes at Raging Wool and can help you fix any mistake you make (we've seen her in action) or help you through a rough spot in the pattern. Before opening Raging Wool, Alice worked at Tropical Yarns in Miramar, and Elegant Stitches in Miami.

Jen is the marketing expert who is currently working to get all of the shop's in-store yarn into our online store. It's no small task - but she still finds time to knit, we promise. Jen once worked at the Yarn Shoppe in Aventura.

Susie is at the shop on Sundays and has an amazing idea for a KAL that will start soon (think fabulous jacket!). Susie used to work in Fort Lauderdale's Sticher's Haven, as well as at Boca Raton Great Balls of Yarn. We're happy to have her at Raging Wool now!

Thank You!

We really enjoy helping out fiber aficionados of all levels and ages and we want to thank you for your business and support.  Let us know what more we can do to further help you enjoy your craft, complete your projects and have fun in our shop!

See you soon!

Alice, Amanda, Jen, Rosemary & Susie
