Greetings!
It's been a fun and busy summer, despite the monsoons. Alice went to Ohio for the bi-annual TNNA (The National NeedleArts Association) and came back with (of course), new yarns and some new techniques for future classes. Meanwhile, the team has continued making room for all the new stuff and recently brought in a couple of new clothing racks so that we can show off the projects we make in the shop with our proud selection of yarns.
We've been busy getting your favorite local yarn shop ready for Fall and the upcoming holidays - not to mention babies, babies and babies! | | Alyssa, Alice's first grandchild |
Alice became a first time grandma in June and we couldn't help but notice how many customers came in during the summer searching for the absolutely best yarns for the babies in their families. We now have a dedicated section for baby friendly yarns!
Since Alice's latest trip, our farm of yarns, now offers you an intoxicatingly eccentric selection of 60 different yarn dyers that we carefully organize, by weight and color, into every nook & cranny, basket and bin for what is now 1,500 yarns to choose from! | | Classes and Knit Alongs at the Raging Wool Yarn Shop |

Amish Fish Puzzle Crochet Class 2 classes, $45 including yarns and safety eyes Many of our customers really enjoy and admire works in three-dimensions, but are often intimidated by what appears to be the complexity and time involved. This stuffed toy is made of single crochet stitches and the only sewing is attaching the top and bottom fins. In this class, you have the opportunity to learn how to make one of your first 3D objects, that also happens to have the added benefit of being a colorful puzzle for kids! Arm Knitting Classes
1 Class Session, $15 plus yarn
We know, you are expert now with knitting needles! You use them with your drum set, and, at Asian restaurants, you are highly proficient in using your wooden needles as chopsticks! But, there are serious limitations with needles! For example, at airport security, the TSA gives you funny looks (not to mention the full body scans) when you fly with your needles. But now, there is a solution to these problems! How cool would it be to create an awesomely beautiful scarf, without any needles, just by using your hands and arms? Well, in this special and fun class, you get just the opportunity to do so! Our students have a lot of fun, and, learn a great new skill that really impresses friends and family - not to mention the TSA! Lush & Lacy Trapeze Top 2 classes for $30, plus 3-4 skeins of Mimi Learn to make this beautiful top in Lotus Yarns Mimi, the luscious yarn from Mink as designed by Brooke Nico in Knitter's Magazine, (K112, pp. 78-79). Brooke states "The luxury of mink is enhanced by a lace stitch with plenty of drape. Because the piece is knit from the neck down the trapeze silhouette - with shaping in the side panels - is almost organic." |

Mecha
Malabrigo Yarn
 | |
Single Ply 100% Pure Merino Superwash Wool
130 yards / 100 grams per skein
Needles US 10-11, 6-8 mm Gauge 11 to 13 sts = 4 inches
|
Since July, we've been stocking a very large selection of colors in Malabrigo's Mecha Yarn. What is Mecha? Well, in Uruguayan Spanish, it simply means, "single ply", but, for us, it means so much more...
The Malabrigo selection at the Raging Wool is a real Malabrigo heaven, and the latest edition of Mecha, with a very large selection of it's colors, gives you the opportunity to use one of the finest yarns to make beautifully gorgeous wearable works of art!

Autumn Wind
Lotus Yarns
 | | 90% Cotton and 10% Cashmere Wool 175 yards / 50 grams Needles US 3 - 5 or 3.25 - 3.75mm, 24.0 sts = 4 inches |
Adding the finest wool Cashmeres to Cotton creates an excellent fiber blend that brings outstanding strength to the material and gives a beautiful drape to your garment without allowing the cotton to "grow" as it's worn. It's another perfect blend for our tropical environments and very popular with our shoppers. But you already knew all that!
By the way, did you know that the the word "cashmere" derives from an old spelling of Kashmir and comes from Angora Goats?

EuroFlax Linen
Prism Yarn
 | 100% Linen
100gr / 270yds Sport Weight OR 100 gr/ 540 yds Lace Weight
|
Cool, crisp linen dyes beautifully in Prism's rich, saturated colors. Both weights of Euroflax Linen are year-round favorites in many climates (especially ours), and a cool alternative for hot weather.
Prism's finishing process results in a softer hand than many linen yarns right out of the skein; repeated machine washing will soften it even more.

Delicato
Prism Yarn
 | 100% Tencel® Laceweight
630 yards / 4 oz. per skein
|
This lovely lace yarn is a terrific substitute for more costly silk. Lustrous, smooth and silky, the hand is superior with beautiful stitch definition and blocking retention.
Tencel® is ten times more absorbant than cotton, stretches less than rayon, and is environmentally friendly, as it's made from sustainable trees and in a closed-loop production process.

Tencel Tape
Prism Yarn
 | 100% Tencel®
DK / 8 ply (11 wpi), 120 yards & 2 oz per skein; Gauge: 5 sts = 1" (#6) |
Another new favorite, our Tencel Tape is the first 100% Tencel knitting yarn I have found. The colors are saturated and exquisite, the hand is silky smooth and soft and there is superior drape. Made from sustainable trees, Tencel is highly eco-friendly. Additionally, it takes dye beautifully resulting in much less dye usage, and is hypo-allergenic and breathable.
Tencel has far more moisture absorbing capability than cotton, making it great for the humid months in South Florida.
