Going into the hospital?

Due to privacy laws, churches are no longer routinely informed if you or a loved one is admitted to the hospital.  Please be sure you let us know when and where you will be a patient so we can be in touch with you and include you in our prayers and healing ministry. Don't assume the Vicar knows - he would much rather hear from several people than from no one!

From the Bishop's Committee
Have you ever asked yourself "Why?"...

By Wesley Rowe, Trinity Church

Have you ever asked yourself the question, "Why?" Not in the accusatory tone (usually from a family member) like, "Why did you do that?" but "Why are you an Episcopalian?"

Well, quite a few might answer that you were "brought up an Episcopalian." You went to Sunday School and all that. If so, what compelled you to remain? The worship service, the minister's personality, the many friends you have?

Have you ever considered the origins of the word, "Episcopal"? Basically it means, "relating (or pertaining) to a Bishop." Why? Do you remember the ancient manner of patriarchal blessings? The father would place his hands on the head of the children and offer a blessing to God (Yahweh) for their provenance, safety and journey...and thanking God for life itself.

This blessing also occurred by "tongues of fire" descending upon the heads of the Apostles. These Apostles, spreading the "Word," and becoming leaders in each community of followers, continued the practice by laying their hands on each member's head.

The tradition of transferring the spiritual blessing, direct from God, through Jesus, through each Bishop, through each Priest, and in turn, to each of us, represents an unbroken line of spiritual succession - which the Episcopal Church continues to this day. That's a significant reason to use in answering the "Why?" as to why you are an Episcopalian. You and I are in a direct line of succession from the ancient Fathers, beginning with the belief in God.

Our Shared Ministry Cycle of Prayer

Each week, in both of our churches, we pray for one ministry we share and one or two households in each church. About once every six weeks, we will instead using the Shared Ministry Collect we prayed throughout the opening months of our Shared Ministry.

In our prayers the next two weeks, we give God thanks for...

Nov. 6
The souls of all who have died since All Saints' last year; and, among the living, for Rose Breslin-Dawson; Gretchen Gobar; and Thelma Hutton
Nov. 13
Hobbs House and all the ministries housed therein; Sandi Nickerson; Rusty & Louise Bridle

The end is near...

...OK, not of everything...just of Daylight Savings Time. Please remember to turn your clocks back one hour at bedtime on Saturday, Nov. 5th.

Fundraising updates...

Here's your chance!
We're doing something different this fall! We are raffling a $100 gift card to Market Basket between now and Trinity's Holly Berry Fair - Nov.12th.  Such a deal we have for you! Tickets are $2.00 each or 3/$5.00. See Patrice Wood if you'd like to buy some.

Vendors and crafters wanted
With our Holly Berry Fair fast approaching, we find ourselves with a few openings for vendors or crafters. Do you know anyone who might be interested?  Have them e-mail Patrice Wood for details - please!

Wes Rowe will be setting up the Jewelry Table for the Fair.  If you have jewelry you no longer wear or small boxes for display, he'd love to have them.  You may bring your items to church and leave them in the Narthex or drop them off at the Parish Office any morning from 9 am - noon.

Pie orders now being taken
We have the list and we're ready to take your order! Tena Wolf and Patrice Wood will oversee this new fundraiser / adventure.  You will no longer need to stand in that long line at the Greenland Garden Club craft fair for pies, because we have their secret and it's Mann Orchards!  7 varieties of pies are available for pre-order. Pies will be baked and available for pickup on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

apple-pie.jpg BUT... we need to sell 45 pies between the two congregations to make this a profitable fundraiser. Consider asking your friends to place an order with us, too. Varieties available include 10" Apple, Apple Crumb, Blueberry, Burgundy, 5-Fruit Crumb, Squash and Pumpkin - $11.75 each - payable when placing order.  Deadline to order...Nov.13th.

Christmas Fair is coming up!
December 3rd

Thank you to the brave souls who have signed up to help make our fair successful!

Please let Tena Wolf know if you have friends who would like to host a table of their own since we are providing a small number of tables free of charge to the community.

Communion Wine is needed at Christ Church

The Christ Church Altar Guild is in need of Taylor Tawny Port wine for communion.  If you have any questions, please speak with Liz Malone.

We thank you in advance for your gift, which allows us to celebrate and share this holy sacrament of remembrance.

Diocesan Convention 2016: An invitation to flourish

The 214th annual Convention of the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire will be Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, when lay delegates and clergy from all the congregations in New Hampshire will gather to meet, to pray and to conduct the business of the diocese.

This year there are just four resolutions: the 2017 Clergy Compensation resolution; the proposed Diocesan Budget; a proposal to re-designate Epiphany Church, Newport, as a Mission; and a position statement on criminal justice.

The morning session will include table discussion around the Convention's theme. Business will be conducted after the lunch break. The entire morning session of Convention will be held in the context of Eucharist, with the Liturgy of the Word opening the Convention and the Liturgy of the Table concluding the morning.

Our congregations are served by three delegates each: Craig Davis, Gary Dozier and Peter Monte from Christ Church; and Patrice Wood, Robert Bischoff and Anne Newell from Trinity. I represent both communities as Vicar. Please pray for us as we represent you at this year's Convention.

- Fr. Chip

Seacoast Convocation to again fill Ditty Bags for Seafarers

All this month, you are invited to provide items for seafarers' "ditty bags" being assembled by the churches of the Seacoast Convocation.

Christ Church members are asked to bring toothbrushes and toothpaste (full-size tubes, please - not travel size). Trinity Church will be collecting bottles of shampoo, shaving cream (again, full-size, not travel size) and disposable razors.

We are also looking for a few more expensive items: tee shirts (smaller sizes preferred - many seafarers are small in stature) and wool knit caps. They may be new or used, but in clearly like-new condition. Shirts need not be plain white, so if you have a lightly-worn promotional tee shirt around (with a slogan on it, for instance) that is acceptable.

The ditty bags will be assembled on Dec. 6, so please bring your donations in by Sunday, Dec. 4.
