Going into the hospital?
Due to privacy laws, churches are no longer routinely informed if you or a loved one is admitted to the hospital. Please be sure you let us know when and where you will be a patient so we can be in touch with you and include you in our prayers and healing ministry. Don't assume the Vicar knows - he would much rather hear from several people than from no one!

Notes from the October Bishop's Committee meeting
The October meeting, held at Trinity Church, opened with a reflection by Hope Murray, based on Presiding Bishop Curry's sermon, "We are Galilee." In it, he describes how the risen Jesus "will appear to Galilee" - and that, in our modern world, we are the Galilee where he appears.
A new set of bylaws for each congregation was approved as presented by the Bylaw Review Team. The approved texts will be distributed to both congregations and will be posted on the church websites. We will ask the Review Team to lead a presentation in each congregation on details of the new bylaws, with some explanation of the rationale for changes from our current bylaws. They will then be presented for approval at each congregation's Annual Meeting this January, and, if approved, will guide our elections at those meetings. The final step will be approval by the Standing Committee of the Diocese.
The Church Vision Task Group presented an update on its work. They have now reviewed five areas of "challenge" facing our two communities, and proposed some ways to address those challenges. Meanwhile, drafts of revised Mission Statements for each congregation are being circulated at this fall's Cottage Conversations for input. Final recommendations will be submitted once the Task Group has concluded its work. This is expected in December.
Set-up of our new Scrip fundraising program is still in progress. Once our accounts are set up, presentations will be made in both congregations on how the program works. This has been a successful, low-stress fundraiser for several area congregations.
The Stewardship Team provided an update on the upcoming Cottage Conversations. Follow-up calls to those who didn't sign up are being made this week. An agenda for the meetings was circulated and discussed, as each meeting will have Bishop's Committee and Vision Team members present to help facilitate discussion.
An initial meeting of the Church Music Director Search Committee was set for Saturday, Nov. 19. The Trinity delegation is now complete: Patrice Wood, Wesley Rowe and Belinda Wilkes. Christ Church's members so far are Peter Monte and Suzanne George; an additional member from Christ Church is being recruited.
In their individual meetings, the two Bishop's Committees acted as follows:
Trinity Church: Follow-up with the Village Pre-School is continuing; the snow plowing contract for 2016-17 was approved; a report was given on the recent Food Pantry leaders' meeting; and a renewal of Gordon Lane's Eucharistic Minister license was approved. A review of Sept. financials showed a deficit month, largely due to Sept. being a three-payroll-period month that also had some quarterly obligations due. In general, Trinity remains on-track to come out at or below the projected deficit budgeted for the year.
Christ Church: A bid for $28,000+ was received for the accessible restroom project - far higher than anticipated. Two additional bids will be sought, as will sources of grant funding to supplement what our Capital Campaign is raising. The LED bulb conversion is now complete, and came in $300 under budget. A Eucharistic Minister license renewal for Betty Lane was approved. Financial reports at Christ Church were similar to those at Trinity, with Sept. proving a deficit month for the same reasons as was the case at Trinity Church.
Full minutes will be posted when they become available. The Nov. meeting will be held at Christ Church on the 15th at 7 p.m.
Remembering the saints
All Saints' Sunday is an absolutely splendid occasion to sing some very stirring hymns, to renew our baptismal vows, and to dramatize the meaning of being "the communion of saints" as living members of the Body of Christ. At both churches, we will pray on Nov. 6 for the souls of those who have been buried from our congregations since All Saints' a year ago. If you would like the name of a loved one (whether or not from the last year) added to that list, e-mail it to Nita in the shared ministry office or call her at 926-5688 no later than noon, Wednesday, Nov. 2. Some have found this an occasion to make a thank offering to the congregation in memory of those so listed. You are invited and encouraged to do so.
Our Shared Ministry Cycle of Prayer
Each week, in both of our churches, we pray for one ministry we share and one or two households in each church. About once every six weeks, we will instead using the Shared Ministry Collect we prayed throughout the opening months of our Shared Ministry.
In our prayers the next two weeks, we give God thanks for...

Gifts for ChIPs
You may drop off gifts or monetary donations at your church. The delegates to Diocesan Convention will bring your gifts to the Convention on Nov. 5th for sorting and distribution. You can purchase a gift directly or contribute $20. If you decide to make a monetary donation, please make out your check to the Diocese of New Hampshire with ChIPS written on the memo line of the check.
Gift Guidelines
- Age groups: birth to 1; ages 2 to 4; ages 5 to 7; ages 8-11; and ages 12-15.
- Gifts should not exceed $20 - one $20 gift is preferable to four $5.
- Books are a separate category and our goal is to provide each child with a gift and a book.
- If you purchase a gift that requires batteries, please purchase those as well and attach them to the gift
- Consider buying a gift that would be appropriate for both boys and girls such as balls or board games.
- Don't forget the older children. There is always a shortage of gifts for older children.
- No used items, homemade items, or gift cards can be accepted.
- The following items are NOT acceptable: jewelry, balloons, crayons, play dough, glue, bubbles, make up, long sticks, knitting needles, crochet hooks, or paint brushes, glass items, clothing, sharp tools or toy weapons of any kind.
Thanks for your help.
United Thank Offering Ingathering
Oct. 23 and 30
The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity. UTO monies to support mission and ministry throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion.
There are UTO "blue boxes" in the Narthex at Trinity and in the hallway at Christ Church. Take one home; make using it a daily habit. We will have a UTO collection this Sunday, with envelopes in the bulletins. Count out the change you've collected and write a check for that amount to your church (with UTO on the memo line) to put in the collection plate, and we will add it to other congregations' offerings during the annual Diocesan Convention, this year on Nov. 5. "Don't just count your blessings; make your blessings count."
Fundraising updates...
Here's your chance!
We're doing something different this fall! We are raffling a $100 gift card to Market Basket between now and Trinity's Holly Berry Fair - Nov.12th. Such a deal we have for you! Tickets are $2.00 each or 3/$5.00. See Patrice Wood if you'd like to buy some.
Vendors and crafters wanted
With our Holly Berry Fair fast approaching, we find ourselves with a few openings for vendors or crafters. Do you know anyone who might be interested? Have them e-mail Patrice Wood for details - please!
Wes Rowe will be setting up the Jewelry Table for the Fair. If you have jewelry you no longer wear or small boxes for display, he'd love to have them. You may bring your items to church and leave them in the Narthex or drop them off at the Parish Office any morning from 9 am - noon.
Pie orders now being taken
We have the list and we're ready to take your order! Tena Wolf and Patrice Wood will oversee this new fundraiser / adventure. You will no longer need to stand in that long line at the Greenland Garden Club craft fair for pies, because we have their secret and it's Mann Orchards! 7 varieties of pies are available for pre-order. Pies will be baked and available for pickup on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
BUT... we need to sell 45 pies between the two congregations to make this a profitable fundraiser. Consider asking your friends to place an order with us, too. Varieties available include 10" Apple, Apple Crumb, Blueberry, Burgundy, 5-Fruit Crumb, Squash and Pumpkin - $11.75 each - payable when placing order. Deadline to order...Nov.13th.
Diocesan Convention 2016: An invitation to flourish
The 214th annual Convention of the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire will be Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, when lay delegates and clergy from all the congregations in New Hampshire will gather to meet, to pray and to conduct the business of the diocese.
This year there are just four resolutions: the 2017 Clergy Compensation resolution; the proposed Diocesan Budget; a proposal to re-designate Epiphany Church, Newport, as a Mission; and a position statement on criminal justice.
The morning session will include table discussion around the Convention's theme. Business will be conducted after the lunch break. The entire morning session of Convention will be held in the context of Eucharist, with the Liturgy of the Word opening the Convention and the Liturgy of the Table concluding the morning.
Our congregations are served by three delegates each: Craig Davis, Gary Dozier and Peter Monte from Christ Church; and Patrice Wood, Robert Bischoff and Anne Newell from Trinity. I represent both communities as Vicar. Please pray for us as we represent you at this year's Convention.
- Fr. Chip
