Going into the hospital?
Due to privacy laws, churches are no longer routinely informed if you or a loved one is admitted to the hospital. Please be sure you let us know when and where you will be a patient so we can be in touch with you and include you in our prayers and healing ministry. Don't assume the Vicar knows - he would much rather hear from several people than from no one!

From the Vicar...
Caring for our neighbors by our votes
The Episcopal Public Policy Network has produced an online guide to the elections that you may access by clicking on this link: http://advocacy.episcopalchurch.org/EpiscopaliansVote. Below I have shared an excerpt from that page. The Episcopal Church considers voting an act of Christian stewardship. I urge you, as the final month of campaigning unfolds, to learn about the issues (not just nationally, but locally as well) and, having prayerfully considered the values behind your vote, cast your vote in the 2016 general election.
Episcopalians can live out our call to care for our neighbors as ourselves by engaging in the public square. This Nov. 8, our nation will head to the polls to decide a number of important elections, and there are many opportunities for Episcopalians to engage in this electoral process. Official Episcopal policy recognizes voting and political participation as acts of Christian stewardship, calling upon congregations to engage in conversation on public policy issues, to develop voter registration and issue education campaigns, and to advocate for protection of voting rights.
A faithful commitment to political participation aligns with our Baptismal Covenant's promise to "strive for justice and peace and respect the dignity of every human being." There are several ways you and your congregation can answer the call to faithfully engage in the electoral process. The Episcopalians Vote page is dedicated to assisting you in navigating some of the important issues in this election season such as addressing poverty, protecting voting rights, and engaging in civil discourse.
I do not expect all of us to agree as to which candidate or party represents the values we hold dear. It is not my policy to state my voting intentions - or to prevail upon you to vote as I will. But we all need to be informed, and this page is an excellent tool for that. In particular, be sure to click on Presiding Bishop Curry's well-stated engagement message on this site.
On the last three Sundays of Oct., we will be using the following as the concluding collect to the Prayers of the People. Let us hold this important decision in prayer, as we seek to follow the way of Christ.
Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Fr. Chip
Our Shared Ministry Cycle of Prayer
Each week, in both of our churches, we pray for one ministry we share and one or two households in each church. About once every six weeks, we will instead using the Shared Ministry Collect we prayed throughout the opening months of our Shared Ministry.
In our prayers the next two weeks, we give God thanks for...

Remembering the saints
On Sunday, Nov. 6, we will remember those who have passed on into God's eternal glory over the past twelve months, as well as those saints in your past who have been special in your life. You may call, email, or leave a note with Nita in the shared ministry office (see contact information at the bottom of this page) if you would like to add names to our service leaflet of those loved ones who have passed into God's eternal light.
"Cottage Conversation" sign-up sheets going out this Sunday
After four years of stewardship drives involving multiple mailings, talks in church and other avenues for motivating people to give, we're trying a new approach this year.
At the heart of our stewardship program this year is a series of "heart to heart" Cottage Conversations in parishioners' homes and other convenient locations. At these gatherings of 8-10 people each, we'll not only learn some of the specifics of our financial health, but also brainstorm together about what we value about our two congregations, what we hope to continue, and what new ideas you may have. Groups also will have the chance to talk about what we are looking for, even longing for, and praying for as our Shared Ministry moves beyond its initial phase into a new maturity.
Our "Loving Hearts, Living Hands" stewardship drive will begin the week of Oct. 16 and will conclude by Sunday, Nov. 13. Sign-up sheets will be out the next two Sundays, after which any who did not sign up will be called to be sure everyone is included.
Pledge forms will be distributed at the gatherings and will only be mailed to members who did not receive one at a "Cottage Conversation." They will also be available in the narthex at Trinity and on the literature table at Christ Church.

Gifts for ChIPs
Under everyday normal circumstances being a teenager isn't always easy. Now imagine being a teen who has an incarcerated parent who they will be missing on Christmas.
As Diocesan Convention approaches, we are given an amazing opportunity to reach out and help. Children of Incarcerated Parents (ChIPs) is a diocesan program that provides Christmas presents (toys and books) for children ages birth to 18 whose parents are in prison. Every age is important when it comes to this program, but we hold a special place for the teenagers, who often get overlooked when folks go toy shopping for this program.
If you would like to make a donation for the ChIPs Christmas giving there will be a special collection box at each church on Oct. 23 & 30. Be watching for further details on gift guidelines, etc.
United Thank Offering Ingathering
Oct. 23 and 30
The United Thank Offering (UTO) is a ministry of the Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, men, women, and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings. Those who participate in UTO discover that thankfulness leads to generosity. UTO monies support mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church and in invited Provinces of the Anglican Communion in the developing world.
There are UTO "blue boxes" in the Narthex at Trinity and in the hallway at Christ Church. Take one home; make using it a daily habit. We will have a UTO collection on Sunday, Oct. 23 and 30. Count out the change you've collected and write a check for that amount to your church (with UTO on the memo line) to put in the collection plate, and we will add it to other congregations' offerings during the annual Diocesan Convention, this year on Nov. 5. "Don't just count your blessings; make your blessings count."
