Going into the hospital?
Due to privacy laws, churches are no longer routinely informed if you or a loved one is admitted to the hospital. Please be sure you let us know when and where you will be a patient so we can be in touch with you and include you in our prayers and healing ministry. Don't assume the Vicar knows - he would much rather hear from several people than from no one!

From the Vicar...
"Thunders like a mighty flood"
One of my favorite hymns is "Alleluia! Sing to Jesus." So favorite is it that I have asked that it be among the hymns sung at my funeral - which I hope, of course, is a long time from now. That said, I wasn't all that happy when one of its lyrics came to life right in the Trinity Church sacristy last week. The lyric in question? "Thunders like a mighty flood." For that's what happened Wednesday, June 29th. I arrived in the sacristy that afternoon to discover that the small water heater under the sacristy sink had sprung a leak and was gushing water everywhere.
I immediately called Nita in the office; she immediately called Rusty Bridle, who came lightning fast. Meanwhile I found the water shut-off and began removing water-soaked items from the floor. His next call was to a flood damage mitigation company; Nita called a plumber; I called the Church Insurance Co. All three responded immediately, and within an hour a new water heater was being installed; giant vacuums, fans and a dehumidifier set up; and an insurance adjuster was on the line with me in moments.
The good news? My catching it when I did might well have been a miracle. I never go over to the sacristy on a Wednesday - but Donna Northam, God bless her, had made a beautiful prayer shawl for Beverly and Clayton Dearth and had delivered that day, and I knew if I waited until Saturday I'd likely forget to take it over to the church. So I took it then and there. Am I ever glad I did!
The bad news? Even though Church Insurance came through as they always do, we do have a $1,000 deductible - and they are not willing to pay for replacing the water heater that caused the problem in the first place.
Ah, but that brings me to the other good news! The folks of Trinity "stepped up to the plate" on hearing about this: At least two folks slipped three-figure checks in the plate over the weekend; several others donated in lesser, but still significant, amounts. The $1,500+ that came initially out of the Next Generation Fund looks like it will largely be replaced by generous donations. What a wonderful church family! (And I know that if a similar incident happened at Christ Church, they'd do the same at their end.)
All of which brings me back to that favorite hymn. At its heart, the hymn is about how God overcomes "mighty floods." The second verse describes well how I feel as the folks of Trinity respond, as God moves them to: "Alleluia! Not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; Alleluia! Christ is near us, faith believes, nor questions how." Then referencing the Ascension, the verse closes, "I am with you evermore." Somehow, "faith believes, nor questions how," Christ was with us in the miracle of finding and responding to the flood so fast. And I am thankful, not only for the miracle, but for the loving people who, as always, stepped up to the plate in response.
Fr. Chip

Outdoor Eucharist and cookout at Trinity
Sunday, July 31 at 11 a.m.
On Sunday, July 31, Trinity Church will host an outdoor Eucharist and cookout (members of both churches welcome). The service will be at 11:00 a.m. in the shaded courtyard beside the church. The cookout will follow on the lawn. Bring your lawn chair and a side dish or dessert to share. Hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages will be provided. Please RSVP indicating how many from your household are coming to trinity55ad@gmail.com. This will help our food and set-up crews in their planning. Oh, and as for a rain date...we won't need one. It never rains on our cookouts! (If, ahem, it does, we'll come inside.)
For those of you who cannot (or prefer not) to come to the outdoor service, there will be a brief celebration of the Holy Eucharist at Trinity Church at the usual 8:45; Morning Prayer will be offered in the Christ Church chapel at 10:30.
Fr. Chip's vacation plans
Fr. Chip will be away from July 12-24. The Rev. David Plank will cover the services on July 17; the Rev. Bill Gannon will be here on July 24. While Fr. Chip is away, neighboring clergy will be covering emergencies, and our Shared Ministry office will be the contact point.
