Going into the hospital?

Due to privacy laws, churches are no longer routinely informed if you or a loved one is admitted to the hospital.  Please be sure you let us know when and where you will be a patient so we can be in touch with you and include you in our prayers and healing ministry. Don't assume the Vicar knows - he would much rather hear from several people than from no one!

Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory"
A reading by actor Stephanie Voss Nugent
Saturday, November 28 in Hobbs Hall

Professional actor Stephanie Voss Nugent performs Truman Capote's beautiful holiday classic, A Christmas Memory on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in Trinity Church's Hobbs Hall. Largely autobiographical, the story takes place in the 1930s and describes a period in the lives of the eleven-year-old narrator and an elderly woman who is his distant cousin and best friend. A Christmas Memory is both funny and touching, focusing on country life, friendship, and the joy of giving during the Christmas season.

Stephanie Voss Nugent is a professional actor, producer and director. Since 1997 she has served as executive director of the Artists' Collaborative Theatre Of New England (ACT ONE), which presents a Festival of Theatre and concerts at the West End Studio Theatre in Portsmouth from August - October. Recent directing credits include Joe DiPietro's Over the River and Through the Woods; Neal Simon's I Ought to Be in Pictures; Michael Healey's The Drawer Boy; and Arlene Hutton's Last Train to Nibroc.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for those 18 and under, and can be ordered through the Shared Ministry office at 926-5688. Refreshments begin at 6:30 p.m.; the performance starts at 7:00.

Christ Church announces results of Capital Campaign

On Sunday, Nov. 15, Fr. Chip, with the help of members of our Church School, announced the results of our Growing Connections and Community Capital Campaign. Thanks to the generous pledges of almost all our active households and several friends of the congregation, $27,460 was the announced result (and two pledges have some in since, raising that total to $28,180. With matching funds and grants bringing the effective total to over $45,000, the Bishop's Committee agreed to begin seeking competitive bids on the restroom, Rectory furnace and sewer repair projects, with the hope that work on each of these can be timed to match the expected receipt of Capital donations.

Our thanks to everyone who has contributed, not only by their generous pledges, but by giving their time and energy to make this campaign a success.  Those whose pledges are monthly or quarterly over the three-year giving period that begins this Advent will find packets of dated envelopes for the first year of their commitment placed in their boxes in the hallway. Those with annual commitments will receive reminders as the anniversary dates near.

What better day than Thanksgiving to celebrate Eucharist?

Please come join us in the Christ Church chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 26, for a simple celebration of the Holy Eucharist to begin your Thanksgiving Day. Dress is casual and the time is just right to let you sleep a bit late and get to your afternoon Thanksgiving Day activities with family and friends. Given the name "Eucharist" means "thanksgiving," what better day is there than Thanksgiving Day to start your day...giving thanks?

Please bring your pledge form this weekend
If you haven't yet done so, please bring your sealed pledge form with you to church this Sunday.  (You should have received it in the mail by now.) A boat will be placed before the altar to receive your form at the offertory, reminding us that "A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats."

For those who will not be in church this Sunday, you may mail or bring your form back so it arrives no later than Saturday, Nov. 21. Those from whom we have not heard by Sunday, Nov. 22 will receive a gentle follow-up call to remind them to return their form.

Request for Donated Items for Christmas Fair

For the next couple of weeks we need everyone to bring in their items for the "white elephant sale" at Christ Church in preparation for the Christmas fair on Saturday, Dec. 5.  Please remember that items should be clean and in relatively good shape.  Ask yourself: "Would I buy this item at a yard sale?"

Also, please bring in any costume jewelry or any other accessories that might be useful for the sale, such as music boxes and jewelry boxes.

Thank you!
Tena Wolf

Goodshop Sunday
Several members of our two congregations participate in the Goodshop program, which allows people to make donations to our churches simply by shopping or using the Goodshop search engine on their computers.

Goodshop's second annual Goodshop Sunday (GSS) is in two weeks: November 29th! On GSS, Goodshop will be offering double donations and exclusive deals from over 200 merchants.

Here's a checklist to make sure you get the most out of GSS:
  • Get on board: If you haven't signed up with Goodshop (via your referral link for extra donations), do so now. It's free, secure - and nets your church real dollars without costing you a thing. Are you planning on shopping for anything that weekend? Goodshop has exclusive deals that also give back, so skip Black Friday and Cyber Monday for Goodshop Sunday!
  • Share, share, share your referral link! Tell your friends about Goodshop, so it's easier for them to shop on November 29th. Those in other area churches or who support popular non-profits may find their own favorite charity is one of the ones benefiting - or suggest they designate your church.
  • Follow Goodshop on Facebook & Twitter. Use the hashtag #GoodshopSunday.

Feel free to email Valerie Greene, our Goodshop liaison, valerie.greene@goodshop.com, with any questions!
